Cross Drilled Rotors on Ebay Any Good?

bought a set a while back. they did not last any longer or stop any quicker than standard. but you do get the 'look' which is why I got them.

Back when the brake compounds were not so good, they were invented to get rid of the excess brake dust. With todays pads they are no longer needed.

They do, however, take away from surface area and are very prone to cracking easy.

Jason it depends on how the rotors are made. Yes the normal ones you see that are 50.00 each are not very good. But goodones are cast with the holes and dont crack if your braking system is up to par. The small holes also do not really make you lose ANY surface area, if that was a concern then your pad selection would be a solid pad and not slotted as 99 percent of pads are.

My Baer Eradispeeds are crossdrilled and cast that way thats also why I paid 500.00 for a pair of rotors. Now IN all fairness I do have a bunch of small cracks in one but that was caused at Watkins Glen when I had a rear claiper freez up on me. The first time we checked the rotor because something felt wrong the IR temp reader read 989 degrees. It felt like the sun!!! the other side is fine though.

Its all in what you buy, a cheap 50.00 rotor is worth 50.00 or one quick test session :)

But to generalize a CD rotor to what most say, you have to look at what they purchased and how they also broke them in.. The break in procedure is the most critical for any rotor ot have any kind of life expendency.

They were vented and slotted to aid in release of the gases and heat build up. Regardless of all that, the ones on Ebay are not for a SHO anyway.

Those are not for a SHO. If you read the big letters right under the picture, it says 94-01 Taurus EXCEPT SHO.

Even still, the auction plainly states, "Application 94-01 Taurus EXCEPT SHO."

Personally, I would be leary about buying them because how many 2000-2001 SHO's have you seen? Also if all of the SHO brake sizes are the same, why are people doing the GEN 3 brake swaps. Just keep in mind that the shops that are on Ebay are there for money and not there be parts specialists. Like Kirk said, if you are going to buy them, make sure hte money is well spent and not because they are cheap.

Cross drilled and slotted rotors will raise your stopping distances, but more than compensate for that with their better heat dissapation.

A solid rotor and nice pad might stop you nicely once or twice on the track, but what about the 5th time? The slotted or cross drilled rotors are perfect for that application.

Kirk, If you paid $500.00 for those you have the 2 piece rotors with the removable hats yes?

Kirk, as you said, if the rotors are cast with the holes, they are fine (as in the factory Porsche and other rotors).

We have seen drilled high $$ rotors seriously crack after hard use (ask Kegel). The way to go with regular rotors is to ge them slotted, which will last and not have the problems of drilled rotors.

Yes, aftermarket drilled rotors are for looks and really don't add to performance. With good pads that are seasoned, the gas problem is not an issue.
