Just tried to go through Crew Carwash in Indianapolis and they turned me away cause it's a SHO. The manager said it has to do with the emblems on the sides. Manager said they were having problems with them? I didn't have time to ask a bunch of questions. I guess they can be damaged or ripped off? Anyone else had this damage or turned away from a car wash?

I'm grateful that he turned me away, in case there would have been damage, but kinda sucks I can't go through automated car washes?

The front fender emblem inserts are known for popping out. Probably why.

I think there was a recent post where the emblem came off and got stuck in the brush and took some good swipes against the paint on the side.

You could just pop em out before hand I pulled one off to look at the mounting, since it was so loosely goosey/not super tight/flush to the body. It just pries right out from the rear facing side.

I think the best solution would be to use some 3M on the backside. Enough of that and there's no way it'd come off, plus it'll stay tight to the body and look better. Next spring maybe. I have a whole roll of the good 3M stuff to use.

I called their corporate office and inquired about this policy when I was turned away after having been an unlimited wash customer for a year. Their reasoning is indeed that the SHO badges were prone to catching the cloth that rotates back-to-front, getting tangled, and damaging not only the SHO but vehicles behind it. When I called a few weeks ago to ask if they'd made any changes to allow for the SHO to be washed there, they said they hadn't but said if I were to replace my SHO badges with the standard Taurus badges that they would be able to wash it. Yeah, not going to happen! I have contemplated removing the badges prior to entering the wash but don't know 1. how much a a pain in the ass that would be, 2. would that make the badges more prone to coming off by themselves, and 3. would that create any other problems with water getting flooded in there.

I asked about reinforcing them as someone else mentioned on here with back RTV. It's a training issue though and it would be impossible to take someone's work for it.

So the key here is to find a brushless wash. Much better all the way around anyway. Those brush based car washes tend to leave swirl marks.

The one on 96th street maybe? I thought they were joking. Guy says "sorry we can't wash your car." I looks over at my son and laughed then turned back to the guy and tried to hand him my card again and said "no, really, just a basic wash." He then basically said the same thing and said "we can't wash the Taurus SHO." and I realized he wasn't joking. So hand wash it was.

I did the same too. I thought they were messing with me...then I realized they were serious. Seriously, I am grateful they stopped it. Wish there was an easier solution but now the hunt is on for a brushless wash.

Anyone know of a brushless wash available in Indianapolis?

Personally, I won't use a carwash that is not totally touchless. Those rotating things will create swirls and in some cases even fine scratches. My car has never been through an automatic car wash. I hand wash every so often.

If you care about the condition of your car, you’d never drive through an automated carwash with brushes of any kind. Worse yet is if you live in a ‘rust belt’ region. Older vehicles go through those washes and the brushes grab tiny pieces of rust. Often not releasing those particles immediately, or ever. You can see how that scratches paint...

Just short of 116th and Allisonville on the west side of the road going towards Fishers. The sign says it is brushless..... My hands don't have brushes.... I use them instead but I work at Ziebart in Castleton so I sort of have an advantage as far as a place to wash it myself.
