The torque converter is SUPPOSED to unlock when the brakes are applied. It's designed that way.

Perhaps a more clear explanation is in order.

I'm gonna assume that it's an ATX like mine. Same problem here only worse.

Most likely the wiring between the OD switch and the servo.
Seems that Ford may have made them a little short and the fore-aft motion
of the trans/engine wears the wiring cover and you get an intermittent short. Last I checked Ford still carrys the wiring loom and it runs about $25 at the dealer.
'Course ya gotta tear the console apart to get to it.Might as well replace the switch while you're there($12-15 from Ford)

My wire is broken from the shifter and I have to remove the console because I cannot get to the other piece of the wire to splice a longer piece in it sucks!

Theres not too much to explain.. When i purchased the car it was at a dealership with vettes and beamers, needless to say the ** hadnt been touched in a long while. When i was driving it home (150mi drive), you tap the break, OD turns off, tap it again, OD turns back on. As you can imagine this isnt good, tap it twice and theres a horrible shutter from it downshifting and then upshifting in between eachother. The next day it just stopped, never had a problem with it again... Thats about the best it can be explained
