I'm thinking of getting the JAWS (http://www.14point7.com/Widebands/JAW_1_041/JAW_1_041.htm) and using the LCD panel that comes with it and mounting it somewhere... and I'm thinking, I can take my clock out and use the LCD panel... but then I'm thinking, why the **** can't I just re-purpose the clock as the AFM output?

Does anybody know how the clock is addressed? I know it's internally controlled and has only power/dim/ground wires going to it, but I'm wondering if there's any way to tear out the guts of it and directly address the LCD panel. Is there anything funky going on in there? Just standard X/Y addressing?

I know nobody's probably cared about this before, but since I've done the EATC/HU swap there's a big-ass clock like an inch from the clock so at this point the stock clock is rather superfluous.

Please feel free to flame as stupid/lame/etc. I can handle it.

Thannks! :wave::salute:

The clock is one of my favorite SHO features. I hate clocks in the radio. Whoever came up with that was a *****. I don't even like clock/radio alarm clocks.

Your idea is not bad though. It would probably be less obnoxious than a regular wideband digital display. I know how many strange questions I got about my wideband display, I can't imagine what people would think when they see the clock going crazy.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just mount the JAW display in the clock hole?

Well as my OP said I had certainly considered it, but there is something to be said for the special uber-geek factor of hacking your clock to display the AFR.

I mean, I am an adherent to hackaday (www.hackaday.com). I live for that stuff.

I have thought about doing this with my PLX wideband. If you do it, I want pictures!

Ok... why do you have to use that display??? If its a standard Led display, I'm sure there's a way to wire up a different one. If anyone actually is really smart, maybe they could replace the stopwatch thing, to a display the a/f ratio.

That would take a lot of "peices" tho. Maybe take your clock, and splice into the "output" going to the clock with a toggle, so you have your clock, then you could switch it over to a blank display that your o2 deal could use...

Then you'd have to mount a switch somewhere.. but it would be 'cleaner' maybe put the button in the coin holder. :)

If I'm looking at that it would be cool to be hidden. But I mean wouldnt' it be realy hard to see while you were totally floored, it looks pretty small or am I missing something?

my car doesn't have a stopwatch... 93-95s have the two button clock.

I realize that an LCD display is an LCD display - but there are a few reasons I want to use the stocker. a) the stocker has the right color already. b) The stocker has digits that precisely fit the opening, whereas others might not. c) Nobody would ever see it coming.

I don't HAVE to use that display - I WANT to. If it turns out to be really hard, then screw it - I have plenty of other options. But I bet I'd be the only one whose SHO clock displays AFR.

The JAW would also output to the TwEECer display on my laptop, and if I'm doing WOT runs I'm going to have a passenger as my flight engineer of sorts. Besides, if I'm doing WOT runs I'm datalogging, not looking at it. I'd look at it after a few runs. I'm N/A so AFR is more of a tool, not a warning light. It's not a huge deal if I run 16:1 for a few seconds lol.

Okay, thanks for specifying that.

For me I know I have to watch it, cause if something goes wrong and it would lean out, its only a matter of a second or so under wot and it could blow or crack a piston/ring.

92 clocks fit poorly into a 94 bezel. If I'm going to hack up the bezel what's the point in the first place?

Innit? JAWS, btw, stands for Just Another Wideband Setup/System (you choose).

I've known about this for about a year now and it just keeps getting better.

Yeah. I think it's all LED. If it is, find the common anode (or cathode, test with a meter) then substitute segment per segment with the clock PCB
