Yea, here's my dinged up crank pulley. Can I get away with using this for a few hundred miles before I get a new one? Or is this a big no-no to put bak on the car?

I had the same thing happen to my pulley.

What I did was build up the walls with some JB weld so the belt wouldn't have a place to slip out.

I only used it for a short time, so I can't vouch for the long term capabilities, but it worked fine for the month or so I was running it.

I wouldnt run it. Besides the obvious issues with running a belt, the now out-of-balance could possibly do some damage.

Is it even straight? How in the heck did it get so beat up??

The pulley puller kept taking chunks out of it. The belt isnt going to fall off. Would this be ok at all just to see if my new motor runs good? Then a 5 mile drive home?

It's been over 2 months since I've driven this thing while it was 100%. I really don't wanna wait anymore lol

You can pick one up like that from sears for pretty cheap. But it doesn't come with all those bolts. But If I recall correctly that the two long bolts for both belt tentioners(sp?) thread into the crank pulley perfectly.

Im not sure that the missing pieces will effect the overall balance of the pully being that it is mounted in rubber (if I remember correctly).

just my 2 cents...

I would not use that F***ed up pulley, and if you have the proper puller the two long bolts from one of the timing covers will work just fine for the puller, get yourslef a NEW PULLY for the new motor, don't even attempt that pully. Just some .02 from an experienced SHOtimer.

balance is balance.

Those missing chunks WILL effect balance. How much? Probably not much. But I would never risk it with a fresh motor.

I wouldn't use it either. There are used ones available from forum members (like me), for a cheap price.

Remindes me of when I forgot to tighten the crank pulley bolt in my +. I couldn't figure out when I'd hit about 5K, the belts would come of. Turned out to be the crank bolt. I figured it all out when I saw the timing belt chewing it's way throught the top cover.
