Well my SHO decided to die on me today only a mile away from home. Frist I got this weired stumble at the college. RPMS droped fast but it caught itself. Then I pulled on the road and watched it and it just died. I was in gear, tach. registered 0, all the lights came on. I am assuming that it is the Crank positioning sensor. If it is that sensor then I will take care of it, but should I take care of any other sensor? Cam?

Thanks for your help!

Ok, Is this something that I can do myself? And should I replace any other sensors while I am in there?

Thanks

That does sound like the crankshaft position sensor that is failing. You can double check by checking the EEC codes. Code 14 (Gen I) or 211 (Gen II) does point to the profile ignition pickup (PIP) sensor. Otherwise known as the crankshaft position sensor. The best source for the Wells SU242 sensor is AutoZone or AutoZone.com for $42.99. It's the labor to install it that runs up the bill. Do you need the timing belt changed? I would leave the cam sensor until it fails. It can be reached without removing anything other than the power steering fluid reservoir and it may last the life of the car. Mine has so far (knock on wood).

If the cps is not the problem one other thing you might check is the fuel pump. I had simular problems for about two years. The pump would heat up parts would expand and freeze up car would just die no spitten or sputtering. Let it set and it would cool down and be fine until it got hot again. Things that factored in to this was driving distance, outside temp, level of fuel in tank, driving in stop and go would realy affect this due to lack of airflow. Good luck but try trouble shooting the cps firts. BTW there were never any codes for the above problem even though the computer does have code for some fuel circuitry problems.

sdpatt, I had the 60K done to my car about 10,000 miles ago. I had the valve lash, timing belt, and water pump replaced by Ford. I was hoping that the sensor would last sence I replaced the water pump. I should have replaced it. My tach just droped thought while driven. So it has to be it.

Thanks
