I recently discovered that my passenger side front coil spring has cracked near the upper portion of the spring. squint

I eventually intend to upgrade to a tokico/eibach setup but for now, funds will not allow this. I am wondering if a decent stock replacement spring is available. I did a search on this and found very little about the spring itself. I thought about searching for a used pair of stock springs but am a little concerned about going this route because of the stock springs tendency to sag.

Also, what are possible reasons for the spring cracking? I am thinking it is possible that I have SLO springs on my car (1994 ATX).

Thanks in advance for the help!!! wink

BTW: SHOforum rocks!

Ah yes, the cracked spring...fun times. I had this problem on my 94 ATX last summer. I was cleaning my front passenger side wheel and noticed that my spring was cracked clean through.

I was told that many SHO's had a recall on the springs because it is common for the front springs to just break in two! I called Ford and asked if my car was under the recall and they stated that my build date was not because they hadn't had enough complaints from that build date yet.

They then stated that I should really get it fixed right away because the sharp broken spring could pierce my tire at any time. In fact I even found out that when Ford did the recall on the springs that they installed "spring catchers" so that if the spring broke again it would not rotate over into the tire!! It was wonderful that Ford has my safetly and happiness in mind thumb (I'm being very sarcastic...sorry)

So needless to say I didn't feel like waiting for Ford to get my car under the recall and I bought a used spring off another 94 ATX with the same spring code as mine and had it installed. So far so good.

Thanks for the responses so far! thumb

NorthernSHO, it's good to know I'm not alone, well kinda! :D

twrsho, I would love to get some intrax but I currently am sporting stock struts. I do need to replace the struts and realize that I will have to do the labor twice if I upgrade later than sooner but for now I need to get this thing back on the road!!

Does anyone know if I would benefit from replacing my stock springs with springs from an earlier SHO? Has anyone priced new, aftermarket stock replacement springs? I looked at the Ford OEM springs and nearly fainted! oh_my

Thanks for the help everyone and keep it comin'!
