Well, i did a search with the problem with my SHO. It seems to b the crank sensor. This is the 2nd time in a long while it has done it. Well tonight i had an open road and no one around, so i got on it in 2nd gear and when it was a little past 6k, it fell on its face

The tach went to zero and it came back on so i drove more then it just died like i turned the key off. After sitting for 5 mins, it started like nothing happened.

I jumped on it again and it ran fine. What my Question is, anyone around my area ever did a Crank Sensor? If you did and willing to help, i would love it. I would take care of you also.

That does indeed sound like the early stages of a CPS near its end of life. It will continue to exhibit these symptoms on an increasing frequency and severity until it finally fails and will not allow the engine to start. You may want to check the EEC codes (see link in my signature) to confirm your diagnosis.

Whoever does the service, make sure that you gap the sensor to the shutter wheel at .03". Another tip is to use a Phillips bit in a 1/4" socket wrench to remove and tighten the screws on the sensor. This has worked much better than a scerwdriver due to the tight clearance with the body.

You may also want to consider the other front end 60K service items if your engine is even close to the timing belt replacement interval or your water pump is more than about 50,000 miles old.

The cost of the sensor is on the $58 range from AutoZone and other local auto parts stores so the cost of the service should not be prohibitive.

From what i read, you have to pull the crank pulley off? I guess ill just have to put her up on jack stands oand go for it!!

From what it looks like, from your replie, you dont have to pull the Crank pulley off. I might be mistaken.

Oh, you definitely must pull the crankshaft damper to access the CPS.

Until you can get a service manual, you can use the autozone.com repair guides for the Taurus. Instructions for the SHO are also included.
