Based on what I have read it looks like I have to replace cranshaft sensor. I am no mechanic and am wondering what this will cost me to replace. If I get this done is there anything else I should replace while my engine is torn apart.

The Wells SU242 CPS can be bought at AutoZone or AutoZone.com for $42.99. The engine disassembly required to replace the sensor is the same as required to replace the timing belt except for lining up the cranks damper to TDC on the #1 cylinder. The front main seal only requires that the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft be pulled to access it. The water pump is "right there" when you have the timing belt covers off.

You didn't say whether you had a 3.0L or 3.2L. It makes a difference because the wiring for the CPS is quite easy to route to the top of the intake manifold for the 3.0L, but quite the bear for the 3.2L unless the water pump is off. I'm curious what the labor charge for this job is at a shop.

A local Ford dealer just quoted me $125.00 for the CPS, and $330.00 for the ignition modular. 4.5 hours of labor as well. Bringing the grand total to appx. $800.! I think i'll opt for the $42.99 down at AutoZone!
Good luck installing. I'm about to tackle mine.

You don't need the DIS. the Standard brand ignition part# PC17 @$80.00 is far better quality than the Wells. I would pay more for the Motorcraft part before I'd by the Wells.
