"2tochoose..your being pretty negative and nieve. " I guess I've just spent a little to much time at the track and seen alot of sub 13 imports
yeah...thats at the track, with a lot of money invested, most all cars "at the track" are pretty damn quick themselves...

Well I didn't mean to come off rude I guess I'm just a little bit older than some of you and have seen alot of imports and domestics for that matter go really fast for not very much money but none of them have been SHO's. Don't get me wrong I love my car but it's not a drag race car. An example of a cheap car is my friends civic that's a low 13sec (off of the bottle) car that he built for about 8k including the price of the car.

Another 17 year old "Taurus Lover" here... bought it when I was 16. I don't have a lot of ricer problems because I go to school with many spoiled young boys and girls...

Instead I have to look out for M3's, TT Supras, and new Mustang GTs. (The girl with the boxster got into an accident the other morning)

This is plain frickin awesome. I had no idea that so many 16 and 17 year olds actually appreciated the SHO for what it is. I'm 17, and I wouldn't trade my SHO for anything. I love the fact that it's a sleeper, and I love the fact that you open the hood and the whole parking lot gasps and the car nuts go "what the **** is that". I just laugh it off. I've had two "street races" in the past two days. Took a Honda Accord V6 Coupe off the line, with 3 people in the car, of course, and a Nissan Sentra with a rice muffler. We're crusing down the highway at about 85. I was behind him and wasn't quite in the mood for a drag. I said what the **** and I dropped her in 3rd, pedal to the metal. All he saw was tailights for miles to come. hahaha. As far as racing imports goes, you just have to know what the Super ** will do and what it won't. The only thing I tried to race that I had some trouble with was a Volkswagen Golf GTI VR6. That little sucker could move. But, I had him with the redline. I was still in second when he had already had to shift to third.

BTW, I sure hope you guys are reading the Maintenance forum too. It's an invaluable resource. I also hope you know what a 60K is and that they have been or will be performed soon. These are amazing cars, and I want to keep mine in good condition for years to come. Of course, this means not running the crap out of it all the time. I save that for special occasions burn_out

ill tell you folks, it sure is fun to be young and in love with a car that no one would expect anything out of.....when i tell my friend what i want to do to may car, he says, why do you want to mod that car, he is a mustang freak you see, and i tell em , well to a lot of people the SHO is basically a mustang GT with 4 doors, and in most cases can take out most mustangs stock....i guess some people wont come to appreciate the SHO as a lot of us young people do, but i can see why, its a TAURUS, i was just lucky and rasied in a houshold of 3 SHO's, so i can see the potential in a SHO burn_out

I'm 15, almost 16, and I just got back from cleaning up the engine.

One thing I couldn't help but notice, is that everyone thinks a sub 15 by a stock SHO is awesome.

My dad use to own my 89 SHO, and during one event at the One Lap of America, my uncle ran a 13.9. I've got the video to prove it also. My uncle is an awesome driver though, and he was smoking the tires to get them warm and stuff.

I feel such companionship, I just graduated from HS this summer, and I bought my SHO just about a year ago. I had to earn my reputation after coming back from winterbreak with her, and I did. It was so fun, especially with my friend in his little Civic who swore he would smoke me, I never even saw the side of his car outta my passenger window.. :p Anyways, my motto was "walk softly and carry a big stick" your in HS..so that should ring a bell. Anyways I didn't go pickin races I just let them come to me, and they will and then you will get your rep. I didn't like to put stickers on my car, nor talk crap for several different reasons (even though it was a huge tempation), I did not want to attract ****** off vandals to my precious SHO, nor did I want to talk it up and then lose(which can be VERY damaging to a rep as u well know), which I later found out prolly would have happened if I would have raced the 2001 Camaro SS at my HS, that proving the point in the previous post "their ALWAYS is a faster car"..that is a fact, so I don't know if I really have a central point in this post, but I made some good ones in their somewhere. thumbs_u

Those vw's have close ratio gearboxes. They're famous for it. That and their cast iron blocks that are bulletproof and can handle serious turbo systems. Their probably hitting third when you're just getting into second. I raced a jetta with shaved emblems a while back on the highway. He was behind me when getting on to the highway and was swinging back and forth in his lane like he wanted to do something once the road opened up. As soon as traffic allowed he tried to pass but didn't have enough power to do so. He may have gotten next to my rear quarter panel but no further. He wasn't able to pass me until I slowed down to see how easily I could pass him. It took me a decent amount of time to pass him again but I slowly realed him in doing 130-135. I don't think he quite had the balls around the junction turn. He took me up to 135 and I only had him by a car length. I'm not sure what model it was. It was a new body style jetta. All of the emblems were shaved including the vw emblem in the middle. He had exhaust and what looked to be larger or vr6 rims. It's hard to tell when you're going that fast. I've pretty much retired my highway racing. It's just not worth the risk of yourself or the others around you. They don't know you're going that fast and just may cut in front of you without warning and get caught in your rhythm. If that happens and you don't have extremely good brakes and a nice handling sho, you may be in trouble. I wrecked one in may because of this. Daily drivers are unpredictable. I expect the worst whenever I'm in traffic. I don't want to lose another one.
If you're going that fast and you see red and blue you better not slow down. Running from the cops isn't a good feeling either. If you just sit back, turn up the radio, and chill in the middle lane doing the limit, life is just as good :) I wish I could get my sho back on the road. Doing my 60k has been complete and utter **** because I added cams and the shop keeps sending me the wrong lash caps for correcting my clearance due to the cams being ground down for performance. I will be back on the road one of these days.

As far as the sticker goes...I always thought Teddy Roosevelt said it best "Walk quietly with a bg stick" in which case the SHO is the stick to beat ricers into submission with. Most import (or domestic) track cars can whoop an SHO...but ricers tend to not know how to drive or actually make their car perform...if an import is doing 13's, that's not rice... burn_out

Stock :D

The only thing done to it was stickers, 5-point harnesses, tires, and some x-tra guages.

The only was to participate in a drag even for One Lap of America would be if your uncle is Don Mallison. If that is the case, either he lied to you,or you are making the story up.There is not a stock 3.0L that can run 13.9 in the quarter.

Ok, well being 17 i guess i should contribute, but enough of this Rice killer thingy, c'mon man, to each thier own, i guess i am just looking at it from both points of view, hey if you like the car, and you have fun so be it, whether you run a 13, or a 17, as long as you have fun doing it.

BTW.. JT is right 13.9 is unheard of an impossible with the stock motor so shut your mouth if you have nothing good to contribute
