I am trying to remove the cover for the Power sunroof switch. Its the cover with the two maplights on my 95 sho.

I have the end closest to the sunroof loose, but cant seem to figure out how to get the end with the maplights off. I'm afraid I'll break it if I just pull.

Those covers are obsolete and very expensive. you have to buy the entire component system and I dont want that. I bought the new switch and need help.

IIRC, you pry on the inside part of the lens(next to the "dimple" ) the whole lens and its frame (eveything that moves when pressed) comes out.

Pull where the lenses rotate (the gap in between the two of them) Press the dimpled end in to stick out the other side a bit, then (gently) sneak in a screwdriver to pry them loose.

If you got the back down without taking the screws out behind the lights then you broke it. The metal bracket (with the harness holders) in the back is hooks to the roof. It is attached to the plastic overhead console by plastic tabs the protrude thru the braket and then are melted. If you pulled it down than you broke the two plastic tabs. You could probably just epoxy it back together.

that metal bracket was already broken. its out now after gluing and hopefully will be fit to go back in tomorrow.
I wanted it off to fix the sunroof button. the prev. owner said he pressed the button one day and it just went up in. Now that its down, I can see that there used to be some type of tab that held the button in place. these tabs are gone and there are no pieces left. I searched the ford parts and found two new ones but its the complete kit for 165.00.
Any one have a pic of what this bracket / tab used to look like. or if someone had an extra for a good price, that'd be good.

The plastic button is very frail and it either does what yours did or what maost others do and the small square holes in the plastic ears rounds out and will not actuate the switch Usually happens after you get it open then you can't get it closed with out taking down the console).

Ford only seals the entire console (and has to be painted). You can catch them on ebay or at your local pick a part/salvage. The last option is a member had a detailed step by step mod post for modding the entire button/switch with one purchased from radio shack. The button was black but once again you could paint it the correct color.

if you get it from ford you don't have to buy the entire console if you don't need it. they also sell just the switch for $70 and you can get the button in the correct color. the switch also comes with the wire harness attached. you can also just get the dome console seperately without the switch from ford but it has to be painted. the combined package is the one that's $170. i have a sho owning friend that works at dunphy ford.

Went through this last fall..epoxied the bar in 3 times..kept breaking, so I used JB weld and 2 small bolts to hold it together..then for the button, used the Ford Contour power window switch mod...takes about a half an hour to cut the soldering points down with a dremel tool and a little wire reroute and solder...the switch presses in from the outside and fills the whole perfectly...works like a charm and the switch is back lit...great fix for $5...!!!

This must be something new as just a couple of years or so. I and many other SHO owners have went thru this for years and the only thing FORD had/sold was the complete assymble. Hence the reason the mod came about. If you can get just the switch you would be an idiot to spend $70 bucks for it.
