Could it be something in the transmission??

There is a noise coming from the left side of the engine bay when i let the car idle in nuetral. It almost sounds like something spinning. When i push the clutch in, the sound goes away. I never noticed the sound before. Someone suggested that it's the throwout bearing but less than 2K miles ago, I had a new clutch assembly and TOB put in and resurfaced the flywheel also. Could the noise be something in the transmission? Thanks in advance.

If the sound stops when you depress the clutch pedal, I'd say it's the throwout bearing Chris.

If you hear it with the clutch out in neutral at idle, but not with the clutch in after the transmission gears and shafts spin down after a few seconds, it is either the throwout bearing (probably not if the noise is the same as it was before the clutch job) or the transmission shafts/gears/bearings. have you checked your fluid level lately? What fluid are you using in the transmission?

im looking to flush and replace my fluid in the trans b/c of the exact same problem. ive heard redline is the brand to use. mt-90 or something? this true? if not, what is a good brand to use?

A complete tranny flush was done when the tranny was out of the car for the clutch job. I'm not sure what kind of fluid was used. I'll find out though.
