ok, so my fans aren't coming on, even when turning a/c on.
the ccrm is aftermarket. fan doesn't cycle when doing koeo test, no faults in system, only code 111. It seemed to do this last night, but never overheated, just got really warm, then seemed to be fine during the day, and then it got really hot tonight when I was stuck in traffic.

so I'm gonna start with getting a ccrm, and since it seemed to not turn on the fan till it was high on the gauge, am planning to replace both temp sending units.

sounds reasonable?

next question, is are the fans on the atx, single or two speed? also if it turns out to be the fans, any good sources on new ones?

also how hot is too hot for damage? last night it got above the N but still in normal band, then tonight it actually got to the to the H for about 1 minute or so before I could shut it down. was only idle speed during all this, It did start boiling over into the overflow once I shut it off, but restarted fine after I had let it cool for a while, and didn't sound bad. plan on checking the oil & coolant for any funkyness.

I didn't know they made aftermarket CCRM's for the ATX.

I'd try getting a Ford one...

The fans are two speeds, hi and low.

No new fans that I know of, discontinued. You can replace the motors though.

I wouldn't make a habit of getting it that hot again, but you're probably fine.

if the fans don't turn on during the koeo test, and no codes are set, most likely you have a bad fan motor or bad wiring to the motor. I would start by testing resistance in the motor by measuring it at the plug.

ok, so if the motors are bad, what is a good source on these? I searched threads last night, but never found a reliable source. Just lots of replies about parts store listings not being the right part.

I don't like to make a habit of it getting that hot either.

It was late and dark, but I will take a pic of the ccrm, it has no ford logos, and the label doesn't look anything like the ford labels I've seen on other ones. It's just a cheap paper label, and it has no letter on it, just two multi-digit alphanumeric numbers.

Rockauto, RCM, or pick up a used one at a J-yard.

I've picked up a couple spares at J-yards for $10-$15 a pop.

and it had the correct plugs from rockauto? I looked at fan motors at autozone.com and the plug looks different, rockauto didn't have a close up of the plug. RCM shows a fan motor and shroud assembly all for a mtx, but nothing for the atx.

Also checked the oil and coolant this am, both look fine, and the engine started fine, didn't make any bad sounds. I drove my 89 instead until I can get this fixed. Ordered the new J module from rcm. I'll pick up a etc and gauge sender at lunch at pepboys or autozone.
