I get to school, turn the car off... close the door and steam catches my attention....
Im like....ok... now what...

pop the hood... look around... cant see anything wet... then i hear ssssssss.... as if water was hitting something hot... so i get under the car, and find a puddle of coolant...

it seems to be leaking from the lower timing belt cover....

i cant recall there being a freeze plug up front there... but im not sure... and im sure that last nights 25* weather had something to do with it.....

im thinking either the water pump locked up, the W/P seal burst, or something else that i cant think off....

what sucks is... im at school..... :madflame:

I would assume its one of the following:

waterpump
lower rad hose
one of the O-rings on that tube that connects to the waterpump

It has been a few years since I was into that section of the SHO engine. But those are the most likely things I can think of at the moment

I had a thermostat that didn't seal properly that, due to the slope of the parking space, caused the same symptom.

My money would be on the water pump having blown a seal.

after futher thought... and some rather simple thinking too.... i dont know why i didnt think of the lower radiator hose.....

It could possibly be the water pump... and with my luck, it probably is.... im hoping that its just the hose though......

id pull it into the shop, but im just going to load it up on to our gooseneck and take her home for the day....

I know exactly how you feel, only the reason I am changing my water pump and timing belt this sunday is due to the dreaded CPS replacement. And that better fix my stalling issue, otherwise i may have to torch it :madflame: ! Anyway just kidding about that. I have already changed my cam sensor. If its not the CPS, I will bite my tongue and replace the DIS since that would have been easiest to replace of all 3.

Well now that you found your coolant leak, I have a quick question (and hope I don't hijack the thread). Where do most of you get your harmonic balancer pullers? I have one that doesn't quite work because I can't find bolts long enough to thread into the puller and the balancer. Does anyone know what size I would need? I'm hoping I can find one at Home Depot.

I heard rumors that the manifold bolts (or something like that) will fit, but they aren't quite long enough

If I get yelled at for not doing a search, I'll get right on that when I get some time, and sorry in advance if I do

That hose will work on the MTX.

:

AutoZone one works perfectly. It includes the bolts for the harmonic balancer. About $15 if you want to own it, otherwise, they'll refund your money on return.

For the tiiming gear, I use two of the bolts for the middle timing cover.

Sometimes I have to use extra sockets as spacers under the bolt heads if they're too long...

just thought of something....
could one of the O-rings have busted (or something along the lines of that)??? or maybe the just gasket itself?

I really didnt get a good look at the exact point were the coolant was coming from... 1)it was under the lower timing belt cover... 2) the car was on the ground... :nut:

either way, i just ordered my water pump, and the gasket set.... bad thing is, the w/p thats on there was only put in a few years ago.... but i guess thats about right.... it is close to a 60k mark...
