I was accelerating from a turn onto a highway, I hit about 5000 in 1st, and probably the same in second and I heard a pop and steam started billowing from under the car, through my vents and around the side of the hood. I parked and checked and the passenger side heater hose blew off of the metal section. It was violent enough that I heard a "popping" sound.

I don't know if this is subpar clamping force, or could the thermostat or radiator cap cause this?

has the hose been replaced in the last decade and a half?

If not, then my guess would be that the hose was old and got tired of waiting to be replaced... ;)

lol, if only I was drinking milk while reading that! :woohoo:

The hoses are new. The metal lines are not, of course. The thermo is new as well. I re-clamped all of them and refilled and I didn't notice anything awry when pushing it a little ******* the way home. It took 1.5 gallons to get it back full again.

if you don't remember when the last time you changed your radiator cap was, change it. It's probably the easiest maintenance you could ever do on a car. They're like $6. Even if you can remember, change it. They fail frequently.

If it blew off of the end where the hose is crimped onto the metal pipe, cut off the old crimp material and replace with a worm type hose clamp. If it blew off of the heater core end, then it was probably an old clamp and bad hose. Replace. While you are at it, replace the radiator cap with a new Motorcraft one. You might want to borrow a pressure tester from Autozone or Advance to make sure the whole system is tight.
