Understood Kris...But Tonya is due July 1 and this is the perverbial wrench. We are however still entertaining the idea. As long all is well when all is said and done.

That statement wasn't directed at you Dave. Glad to hear the little one is on it's way. Hmmm, the way I see it is that you would be off for family leave anyhow, bring the kids, and the baby of course. It would not be the first time a little tiny baby has been at a convention!!!!! And besides, it is so fun for all, including families!

I'm thinking of going, but someone is going to have to show me what is going on.

Jen, if you have any questions just call me. The caravans are way at the top of my list for convention fun! I would do the California one again in a hearbeat! Can't wait for the Seattle and New England conventions.:dribble:

Im planning on attending this year. i went to indy in 05'. The only thing i regret about that convention was that i DIDN'T race at putnam park (the road coarse). Im planning on racing the SRT on the track this year. Probably not the drag track cuz i can do that around here.

Looking forward to carpooling with some of you guys maybe!!

SO when you go to the track, do you have your own pit stall?

When you get to the track, normally everyone parks in the paddock (which is normally paved, while a few tracks are still grass). You aren't assigned a spot, so it is a first come, first serve type of thing, although I don't think position matters off the track as much as it does on the track. Here driver's unload the extra weight and tools (floor mats, coolers, chairs, and extra passengers). There is a driver's meeting in the morning along with a tech inspection.

The normal "hot pits" aren't used, besides staging as driver's wait to be let onto the course. Grattan Raceway does have garages, but they typically aren't used for events like this.

I haven't been to Grattan in quite a few years, so I can't really give you a detailed description of anything. Growing up, I do remember an island of some sort... and most of the paddock is inside the course, which requires you to wait until the track is clear to cross (much like Blackhawk Farms).

If you want a bit of information on the track and the turns, click here.

You are correct. The paddock area is in the infield, and you do need to wait until the track is not hot to cross.

I never have luck at tracks like that. Last year, my family made it across the track at Blackhawk after a race, but I was stuck at the gate. I was first, so I had trackside view, but the drinks were on the other side and I had nothing in my car.

I also went to the first (and I believe last too) SCCA event at Route 66. They made a makeshift track, using their dragstrip for the straight. They had cement barriers around the paddock and you had to wait until a machine came and picked up the barriers so you could leave the paddock. As far as I know, SCCA never went back. The track was ridiculous with cement all around - not quite the safety cushion I like to see.

SO how many people are leaving on Sunday or Monday? We are debating when we can leave. We can only leave on Sunday night or early Monday morning. I was just wondering when people might caravan from Wis to there.

Probably will happen this way. The only other option, in my opinion, is to go Saturday and have an extra night to get started!!
