I was reading the rules for the road course and they ask for a car number. What is that and how do I find out what it is?

When you register with Don for the convention, you will receive a number (i.e. Adam is number 2). When you get to Michigan and you go to the "registration room" at the hotel, Don and his family will have a packet of information for you - including a vinyl sticker to place on your windshield. That will be your car number, so no need to put anything on the paint of your car.

So what extra items should I bring for the track? Also what upgrades should a person have done to the car if the are going to run track? Sorry for all the question, but I know nothing about road courses.

For the track, I recommend bringing the basic tools - jack, jack stands, torque wrench, tire pressure guage, etc. I also recommend extra brake pads and fluid, a quart of tranny fluid, and a quart of oil.

If you haven't had a chance, I recommend reading the tech sheet that is on the SHO Club website and making sure your car passes the checklist. It's basic things, but it is important to make sure everything is torqued down to the specific degrees as well.

As far as upgrades for a SHO (assuming you are bring the SHO, although I would like to see your other Taurus), I am sure Dave and Adam can give you some advice on that. I recommend looking into brakes because of the tight turns. They will get very hot, very quickly. A good set of tires will also help. Regular street tires don't heat up quick enough to get decent grip on a track, but you can find tires that are more geared towards track events.

Probably will happen this way. The only other option, in my opinion, is to go Saturday and have an extra night to get started!!

I like this idea ! :nut:

Yes Good brakes are a must. Stock brakes suck big time. A few people run 96+ brakes and they seem to kick ass.

I would stick to brakes first. Upgrade suspension and engine later.

Jen, if you have not run a road course before, I would assume you will be in the novice group. There is nothing wrong with this, as it is a good place to start and move up according to how you and your car respond.

You will need to have "h" or higher rated tires, I believe, to run the course. As far as brakes go, the more the bigger the better, HOWEVER, I ran my Plus for the first two years with stock brakes. I upgraded the pads a little, but that was it.

As we all know, there are a million things to upgrade on a car but if you have not run it on a track before, just make sure what you have is working the way it should. Then it is just a matter of your preferences for what you would like your car to do better at.

This is one of those threads that could go on and on and on and on and on.........

I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960s Pole Positions on my car that have less then 1K on them. I think they are W rated. AS for brakes, I was considering doing the 96+ upgrade on it or going to the stage II set up that is why I was asking questions.

And I damn well better be in the novice group, or I'm going to question the track. :)
