I was wondering what everybody is doing to make the shift boot work with a genII ATX console. What do you all suggest? I was thinking of straighting the metal around the boot and drilling holes to mout it. Or peeling the vinyl off the metal ring and gluing it to the ATX metal mounting ring. TIA.

Sorry about not being constructive. I'm sure with a little metal and some ingenuity something could be figured out to make the mtx shift boot work with an atx console.

No problem. Just givin' ya sh**. BUT I am going with your first suggestion because I am painting my old console. I am kinda **** about how things fit and that is the best option. ;)

Jelloslug, how did I know you'd be the one to post a pic? Maybe because you have the best looking genI interior IMO. :thumb:

I just can place what looks so odd in the picture. I think it's that the Cone-bone is so *****. After looking at my SHOrt Shifter all day it just looks out of place. :D

I have an ATX console in my car, I had a carbon fiber shift boot made for the car, so all I did was use the metal plate and screws and put them through the c/f but either drilling holes in the metal plate for the mtx shift boot, OR pealing it off of the metal would work okay, but for the leather, I think it would be smarter to drill the correct holes in the metal bracket. Mine looks sweet, and I have the SHOrt shifter also, sweetest mod yet I must say!

That's the good old cable shifter in my car. I have a rod shifter and a SHOrt shifter sitting around waiting for the engine/tranny to be put back in. :thumb:

The chances of finding a black one are slim, especially a black MTX console. Black Gen2 consoles were only available in 93. There aren't many out there. Best bet is to get a tan or gray one and paint it. It works pretty well, although the carpet ends up kind of crusty.

I have a black GenII ATX console. I ended up just poking holes through the leather/metal ring around the bottom of the shift boot to screw it in. Looks ok but not as well as a MTX console does... I have an extra tan and grey MTX ones. Just can't find a black one because of the reason you pointed out. So at least I don't have to deal with the crusty carpet...
