Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, but hope to be a regular soon. I am considering trading my Jeep Grand Cherokee for a 94 SHO and could use a few opinions. It seems to run great. 165000ish showing. The body is straight, but the paint is basically gone(Ford silver). The interior is rough with tears in the seats and dirty. No rust that I could see. I know it was definitely fun to test drive. Judging from prices I see online, and here, the resale value of these cars is low,but the fun is great. Am I making a mistake? He is asking 2000.00 or trade and my Jeep is in better shape, but sucks in the mpg dept. I've always wanted a SHO. What is ATX and MTX on these cars? I haven't found an explanation for that yet. I'm really a newbie on these things. Thanks!

first off 2k is a little much imo,the atx is automatic and mtx is 5 speed.i would take a good look under the car and make sure there is no leaks.see when the last time the 60k's were done and see if he has service records for it aswell.does it have any upgrades done to it? hows the suspention? as far as the interior goes there is all ways someone selling some type of interior pieces.
hope you get it for a fair deal and if you do pics are a must. also this forum has more info on it than you would belive. in your spare time do some serches and read through all the "stickys" on the tops of the different sections as they are very helpful and you will learn alot from them

I'm pretty sure it's going to need a 60. At least the new valve cover gasket anyway. No other leaks that I could see. The suspension seems a little soft, but I have never driven one before so I really don't know. No mods either. claims a new clutch about six months ago and it's pretty stiff so I can believe that. Thanks for the suggestions and I will do some searching as you suggest.

I would not pay more than $1k for a car with a shot paint job and a shot interior (in fact, I probably wouldn't pay that)...if it's an ATX (automatic), it's a $500 parts car. Manuals (MTXs) carry more value in our community. The automatics are trouble and cost about $2k to rebuild. It seems as though you're looking at a MTX according to your post.

Keep looking. I know you can find alot better SHO for your $. You can find some nice rust free SHOs in the Nashville area. You might need to be a little patient though. I'd go for a manual trans. Pull some of the plug wires to see if there's oil in the plug wells. If so, that means you'll need valve cover gaskets, which is part of the top 60k service (plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, valve adjustment). Find out the maintenance history on whatever ones you look at.

FWIW, I paid $1900 1 month ago for my 95 5spd white/mocha with very good paint, very good interior, recent water pump, crank sensor, valve cover gaskets all replaced. It has 144k. There are better deals out there.

in comparison i paid 950 for a 183k moonlight blue mtx that was allready 60k'd and had a fairly shot interior..but the paint is in fair shape...i would pay 1000 for this at the most....jeeps have more value than a sho...**** a non running jeep cost more than a running sho....keep the jeep and pay cash for the sho.

I got a MTX titanium with black that sat in a field for 5 years for 250. Oil and coolant it fired right up needs a 60 and i broke the cable shifter so i have a gen 2 with a rod im swaping into it. The interior was a little rough but not bad mice under the seets but no outer damage. half the wiers are chewed through but nothing is wrong with it...exterior is to be expected but no rust kinda hard to beleave. But this is kansas

No. That's odd though...I don't know of any other SHO enthusiasts here in town. There are many that aren't on the forum or in the clubs though. I bought my 95 in Huntsville, but I haven't gone to TN to look at any. I've called about quite a few up there though.

If you're looking at the one in Dickson, the 94 is green, the 89 is silver. Both are overpriced IMO.

FWIW, here's some pics of my 95 I just bought for $1900. You can find better deals out there.

Wish I couild say this one is as clean as what you have. : ) Nice one. Jeeps are a dime a dozen around here and Grand Cherokees especially. Now I'm in a quandary. Want a SHO,but apprehensive about this one. I don't usually have time to go look at cars if they are out of town either. What to do..What to do..hmmmm. Have to think about it.

Hey, it's like any other old quick car that most likely was driven hard a bit. There are things that can cost more than you paid for it, and things that cost $12, 7 minutes to fix, but cost you 26 hours of searching.
You'll find more opinions than you want here, but everyone will try to help. Welcome in sucker muhahahaha

Welcome to our community! I just picked up an SHO myself. My rocker is gone on the driver rear door, and the passenger surface of the rocker is getting a little crusty. I'm going to fix it. I payed $900 for the car. The interior is about a 6 out of a 10. I'm going to give it a good cleaning, and bring it up to a 8 out of 10. Once I fix the rockers, and the little dents, and get her painted, it'll be pretty nice. Good luck on your search! There are some really cleans ones out there.

first off print off the blue book value. Try to fing as many things wrong with it as possible.. If you pop the hood check the intake to see if there are rub marks on the intake . It will be shiny in some spots from rubbing on the hood insulator blanket. this indicates a broken front motor mount. Also take it for a good joy ride. See how it handles in a parking lot. IF you turn really sharp and the steering wheel binds you have a subframe mount problem, If your from tennesee im sure its fine. Go over some railroad tracks to see how the struts and mounts are. The rear brakes probably dont work correctly from the bias valve being stuck or rusted. The jbl sub is probably blown if the stock equipment is already hacked. And the front brakes will warp soon if not already..

Good luck
