I have a 2013 SHO non PP. The was doing awesome till the day after the Super Bowl. My wife called me at work and said the car would turn over but not start. My father in laws mechanic whitch is ford certified came over, checked the codes and said it needed a low pressure fuel pump. Him and I I talked it in my driveway. The car started but had no power and the check engine light came back on! Took it out local ford dealership and they said it needed a high pressure fuel pump. That installed a high pressure fuel pump and said it was fixed! Brought it home and the next day it started cutting out and the check engine light came back on. Took it back to the dealership and they said it needed 2 oxygen sensors! They installed the sensors and said it was fixed. Picked up the car and the next day the car started cutting out and the check engine light came back on! You can smell gas coming from under the car at times.

Welcome! Sorry you are having problems with your SHO :(

Since so many codes were pulled, do you know what they were? Would give us something to start troubleshooting with. Computer conrolled vehicles, this is vital data.

Generally speaking, the 2013 was the first year of the Gen V SHO, and had a couple of problems with the fuel system, both recalls, IIRC. LPFP and Fuel Pump Control Module. If a new LPFP/FDM did not fix it, I would replace the FPCM (easy DIY, if need be).

Gas smell depending on exact location could be a leak in the pump OR if out the tailpipe/exhaust system, a leaking injector with unburnt fuel making it past the cats. IF you go regularly go past 2 clickoffs on fillups, it could have damaged the canister vent valve and/or purge valve, and that could cause startup problems as well.

UPDATE! After installing a low pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump,2 oxygen sensors, evap valve and a evap cannister(all of these new parts),dealership is saying it may be the transmission now and wants to check it. After all these new parts and $2500 dollars the same problem exists. Nothing the dealership has done, has helped at all.

Nothing the dealership has done, has helped at all.

An unfortunate circumstance that seems to be happening with way to much frequency at dealership service departments.

Instead of actually diagnosing a problem, and/or the symptoms (of a problem) they just throw parts at it.

When that doesn't work, they scratch their heads and then turn to corporate engineers to assist, which often again, results in the throwing of even more parts at it.

Like being stuck in an endless loop.

Rare is the breed of actual mechanics who can actually fix the problem at hand, and who don't feel compelled to rely upon all of the damn sensors and everything else that these current one's rely to heavily upon, to tell them what to do.

Good luck in your efforts. The struggle is real as they say.

After thinking about it tha car still missed while sitting still. Called the dealership back to tell them it couldn’t be the transmission. Service person said they’re transmission guy drove it only a quarter mile and brought it back and said it’s not the transmission. After bringing it back the technician also smelled the gas I was talking about! They wanted to change the plugs and boots and I agreed. Got Motorcraft plugs at Advance and took them to the dealership because they were $55 dollars cheaper through them, boot through the dealership because didn’t have them. They changed plugs and boots. Called me back and the new evap canister was filled back up with gas and they needed a $300 dollar authorization from me to cover the cost of dropping the gas tank to check the low pressure fuel pump connections and some kind of leveling sensor! This is crazy, absolute nightmare! It’s been like this for 7 weeks now! What do you do? LOL!

Well, the good news is: sounds like your misfire is from raw fuel from the evap system. The only way that fuel is entering the system is by over filling the tank, or the roll over valve. Dont quote me on this, but I think that valve is part of the fuel tank.

The other possibility is there is a vacuum being pulled on the tank, deforming it and pushing raw fuel into the canister. This will usually set dtcs as the car monitors evap system pressure.

They are on the right track it seems, but fudge. If they are going to misdiagnose it, it's not your fault.

Failure of the EVAP purge valve (in the V of the engine) also commonly causes extended cranks, tho not as much failure to start.
