supposively all the new "oil" has dye built into it so that when you use the black light you see a yellow colour showing the leak! dye doesn't get put into it... its there already! lol! so he is sorta telling the truth but making it harder then it really seems to be

If the car previously ran R12 you can easily convert and get a R134a Compressor Cycling switch: SHO Source

It does help to get more out of the system.

The condenser is the same for all years: SHO Source

can you tell me the part number for the 134a cycle switch???? seriously for 5 years I had to battle finding one that threads onto the new receiver dryer I put a few years ago! its like it has metric threads and the original one had standard... I can never find one of these switches to thread on 100%

the last time I got it serviced was like 3 years ago and at the time they put a switch from a ford truck I think! it screwed right on! when I did a search it came up as an r12 one,,, so weird!

You can buy it and find out. It is the correct part and I have even used one on my SHO with no problems.

Sticky this.
Best info available for the MTX AC system (different than the automatic cars).
Trainguys parts list and photos are great information source.

I have also redone the entire a/c system in my 89; twice unfortunately due to a reman compressor leaking < a year after I replaced it. Trainguy is the go-to for a/c work and has taught me how to repair mine. Now I also can be of assistance as well after doing mine twice.

FYI--on those 2 obsolete manifold lines, if they are damaged, you CAN find a parts house like an old NAPA or somewhere that does brake line/hydraulic line work to repair them. I had to have a new end fitted on one of those lines on my 95.

I suggest a new compressor, even though they are $$$ and hard to find. My reman may have leaked because I did not replace the manifold seals the first time (which looked ok). I got lucky and found a NOS Ford compressor on Ebay for $270 and installed it in my 89. Works great, 38-40 degree temps on 134a and yes you need the 134a cycling switch. It comes pre-adjusted, so don't mess with the screw. I found one for $5 on Ebay.

Cheapest place to find Four Seasons lines (accumulator and liquid line) is on Ebay. Compressor is the 10P15F and buy it from whatever reputable place you can.

If you're gutting the system and starting from scratch and flushing the evap, you can use the PAG 46 oil for your 134a system. If you simply do a conversion from R12 to R134a and have even a small amount of R12 mineral oil left in the system, you'll want to use Ester oil in the compressor. It is compatible with both 12 and 134, whereas PAG is NOT compatible with 12....meaning you can tear stuff up if you mix PAG and mineral oils.

Thanks Airborn, Trainguy, Matt, & Jeremy for sharing your experience.

This is still the best place to go for keeping our SHO's on the road!

Much obliged to all for your contributions!

I bought a 4 seasons from local parts place!

part number 36676 4seasons

wont thread on all the way to receiver dryer that was replaced when I did new compressor liker 4 or so years ago... the one that did thread on not sure of brand but the 2 numbers on the bottom are 69360 and 0203 when I did a google search a ford vehicle r12 cycle switch came up! only reason I am replacing is cause switch is leaking from middle.... it drained whole system with in a few hours! cycle switch has been off for about 2 months and still has pressure in the system now !
