Yes, it has been way too long. With the move (living 60 miles from my garage/car) and the marraige, this car has not been a priority. But I was able to spend a few hours here and there and have mostly completed the project. Here is a synopsis of what I have done so far, along with the appropriate pics:

I had been uphappy with the old turbo SHO for some time. The car itself had around 140k on it, half of those as a turbo car that got 'ridden hard and put up wet' so to speak. Suffice it to say, baby needed a new pair of shoes. This spring I found them, in SC. Here is the clean 1990 Red/Black I picked up in March for a song:

As you can see, the body/paint/interior is in good shape. The engine/drivetrain/susp etc was also just fine, but I did not care as every component was to be replaced with upgraded parts.

After driving it for a few weeks, I put her in the garage. First thing was to start removing the stock components (sold the engine and trans already, and the Tokico suspension):

Next, I cleaned and coated the subframe:

The exhaust needed a little work, a new flexpipe and some leaks fixed, along with a coat of hitemp on the muffler. Though about blacking out the tip as well, but decided to keep the SS look. Got to have some tip-off that the car is not stock!

Next, went to work on the engine and trans. Even though the Quaifed trans I had was in perfect working order, and only 50k miles, I had 2nd/3rd gears and input shaft shot peened. I figured if it helped at all it would be worth a try. Already had a brand new Race Clutch and tob along with rear main replacement, so those I left alone. Then I did a full 60k service (and cleaned/flow balanced injectors) to the low comp 3.2, which had new rod bearings as well. This engine should be good to go for some time now! Figured I might as well make it look a little more pleasing to the eye while I was at it:

Got the engine/trans mated together and on the subframe. Next was the tedious job of getting the cleanest lowest mileage wiring harness I could find, and rewrapping it with new loom (when needed) and heat protective wrap. I really went overboard, but after having some major problems at the Cali convention due to a broken downpipe gasket and some melted hoses, I wanted to make sure that that never happened again:

Next up, fab brackets for the IC, modify fender for turbo inlet/IC pipe, install subframe with engine/trans, and install boost controller and reference hoses:

16-1...as in ***? What's the difference b/w a K16-1 and a K16-2? Am I way off here?

Nice project. Only wish I could have my SHO so nice. I don't even need the turbo!

Then, with the addition of the 90mm MAF, I needed a new inlet tube. Besides, the other one left a lot to be desired. This is a 3in mandrel bent peice, with 3in-4in connectors. Much improved airflow characteristics:

And of course, the beverage of choice when one is turbo'ing their SHO:

Here you can see the new EBC reference feed, the relocated ABS and ICRM computers, along with just how tight everything is! Lots of fun is generated right here!

The susension, brakes, gauges, EBC and turbo timer, along with the super sweet Jose short shifter (this car was cable) went in next. Once I get the bumper fitted, and get some pics of the rest of the cool parts, as well as the entire car (it needs cleaned! very dusty!), I will post a part 2 thread.

To respond to the above posts:

My name is not Tom, not sure where the 16-1 *** came in (it is a turbonetics 62-1), the white car provided most of the donor parts for this project (it was simply past its prime, and needed to much work to make the rest of the car match the engine/suspension/etc). And thanks for the compliments.

These pics are quite old, like June/July, but after a few months of inactivity on the project, I replaced a bad master cylinder and took the car for a spin last week. Once I get it tuned to decent degree, I will turn up the boost and make a dyno run. It should blow the old turbo SHO's numbers out of the water. What with the new inlet/MAF design, new fuel system, new larger turbo, and the ability to tune with the Tweecer, all with 5-7 MORE psi than it has ever seen, I am hoping for numbers that well surpass my previous. Stay tuned!

Right on!!! I hear you there. That's the same beverage of choice when one (I) supercharges their SHO.

It's looking friggen awesome Tim. I'm looking forward to see more of it, especially some videos when it is done.

It seems everyone is beating me to getting their SHO done and it just makes me more anxious!

Tim, what size are your oil lines?
