Working in our garage at 40-50F. Is there a need to compensate for shim measurements due to the cold?

I would think that an ambient air temperature in the range of 40F-90F would be appropriate for the valve gapping. I would be surprised if the temperature in a garage got as low as 40F and still allowed the mecahanic's hands to function normally. Don't you use a space heater. Just make sure that the engine has had a good cool down period. Overnight would be the best choice.

Thanks for the replies. I've had over 50 yrs to acclimate to these New England winters but space heaters, layers and warm dextrous gloves work well.

I just did a valve adjustment Saturday night in an unheated garage and the outside temp was 28F when I finished (although the garage was probably still 10 degrees warmer). A good pair of mechanics gloves works wonders!
