I agreed. Full synthetic at 4k changes. Done this will all my vehicles. When I tore down my Cobra engine, it was spotless inside with over 100k miles.

Jumping into this Old post,...bought my 2011 SHO used a few months ago with 37K on it (from a Honda Dealer, So I am Sure It Doesn't have a Ford filter on it),..have 39K on it now and within the last 2 weeks it started the ticking noise for a few seconds on start up after it sits overnight and after my 10 hr work day is over. Some days it Doesn't make the noise. I am going to get the Oil changed next week at the Ford dealer, have a free change coming,..so we'll see if it quiets down after that and for how long. I know my wifes 2003 Expedition (with 50K on it) with the 5.4 L does it on occasions as well,..my buddy who is a Ford service manager say's it is common,..as echo'd in prior posts. So it's not only on the Ecoboost motors.

Update,...had the Oil changed last Thurs. at my local Ford Dealer with the recommended Motorcraft filter and oil. Since then I haven't heard the ticking noise upon start up after sitting for long periods of time, we'll see if it returns as some others have stated.

So I know this thread is a dinosaur but just wanted to poke my nose in here. My wife just got a 2014 SHO. She adores it. It's kept in perfect shape. Spotless and well maintained by a local ford dealer. (watson quality ford In Jackson Mississippi). Same issue on start. Sounds like good old fashioned lean rod knock. Only for a second on start up or under boost at low throttle. To me as an old car guy it scares the heck out of me but the car seems more or less perfect aside from that noise. It's taken care of at the dealership. Synthetic oil and motorcraft filters. Everything done by the book. My wife is down right **** about taking care of it. Any info on this or is it really just ok? ( I drive a 86 f150 so her car is to fancy for me)
