Your stock intake is a cold air intake and draws right out of the fender. There is no added peformance with a aftermarket intake on a bone stock car. Best you can do is remove the silencer from the intake in the fender

x3. Just remove the silencer cone. Make sure the maintenance is up to date. Then you can look at some bolt ons.

Aftermarket cold air intakes are good for one thing - sound (and maybe looks too, if you care about that). I have an old SHO Shop in-fender CAI on my car, and it sounds way better than a stock airbox, with or without the silencer cone. The problem with this setup is that you can't fit a very big filter in there, and it's in a spot where it gets pretty dirty. For these reasons, I may end up switching to a can-style CAI, but I doubt I'll go back to stock anytime soon.

I forgot to mention, I wouldn't spend much money on a CAI. I had a stock intake up until sometime last year, and the only reason I bought this one was because it was cheap on craigslist. If you can find a deal, go ahead and jump on it if you want. Just remember that all you're paying for is sound, not performance.

I know that there isn't any power gains to be had on a stock car, but I wonder if anything to be had on a full bolt on and/or cammed car? Just kind thinking out loud. I've been thinking of getting one just cause I think they look cool.....and yes I know this is a pretty weak reason to get one.

My nephew has 1995 cammed/bolt on ATX with the stock airbox. My 1991 has a cone filter in a can with an intake horn. I have about 100hp worth of noise on my nephew, but I don't think no more power in reality.

Do you mean the tube that fits through the fender, or just the filter itself? The filter is just a universal K&N, which can be ordered at most parts stores or online. I'll see if I can find the part number.

Post a Wanted To Buy ad here, look through the parts classifieds, look on ebay, craigslist... They're not made anymore, so you'll have to do some digging to find one. I found mine on craigslist.

Yeah, I'm running the stock air box on my cammed 94. I know certain bolt ons are benefited by other bolt ons.......didn't know if all the other bolt ons/camms would make it so an aftermarket CAI would actually make a difference. Just curiosity really. If the opportunity comes up maybe I'll play with it on the dyno sometime.

I've got the old shoshop cf can.. looks great and sounds even better.. I drove a stock sho a while back and got bored with it real fast because the intake was too quiet. I've given people rides and they were actually worried something was wrong with my engine because of how hard it screamed.. haah
