K&N used to make a kit for the Gen 2 SHO but they don't sell it anymore. Once in a while you will see one on ebay. I bought a new one 2 years ago on ebay. It's not too hard if you want to make your own. Auto Zone seems to have all the stuff to do it.

I don't think K&N ever made a kit for a SHO. There were some kits made that used a K&N filter, but I'm pretty sure they never made one.

As far as a "CAI", if you're looking for power, you're not going to gain anything aside from more dust being sucked through the motor (K&N). My STi uses a filter similar or even smaller than a SHO stock filter and it's producing a bit more power than 98% of SHO's still on the road. However, if you're looking for a new intake sound, a CAI will do it.

The stock set-up is a cold air...anything else may get you better sound or looks but not much of anything else.
i want the sound lol. although- would it sound the same as when i took the silencer cone(s) out of the fenderwell? i did that a long time ago now...

K&N never made an intake for the SHO.
i made an intake out of a trash can, spray paint,a 3" rubber plumbing elbow from home depot and some pipe insulation that looks very profesional.
i would have kept the stock setup if i wasn't running a diffrent MAF.

Ebay sells good CAI kits. I did not notice any power improvement, but feel improved tip in throttle response over the stock intake with K & N, plus it cleans up the underhood area and loses a few pounds of weight.

I think you guys are kind of silly.... you bend your exhaust into mandrel bends to help the velocity of the air going out, why not help it on the intake side as well... makes sence to me if you think of the motor as a big air pump.

Your saying this.... (don't forget to add the cone on the end of that peice on the right..)

I just have a problem with that... maybe its not so bad with just a 55mm MAF being your smallest restriction, but for the larger MAF's, I don't see how anyone can say it dosen't help.

what about the dirt/road grim you're going to pick up with that set-up? not to mention the water and oil when it rains. i'm not saying it works or doesn't, makes sense that it would with less restriction but shouldn't you at least be running a pre-filter?

Well you have the inner fender liner in there also.... I'm sure that pic was taken after the install of it... and it wouldn't be that bad with it in there!

Yes, it does require more upkeep and maintance. Even with the dust sheild in place, it likes to collect a fair amount of dust. I'd say every 10k or so it could use a cleaning. More so if you live in sandy soil areas.

I haven't noticed it getting wet, but then again I don't take the wheel off in the rain when I get home from driving either. :)

THe ebay filter kits are mounted underhood with a cone filter and can enclosure; nice fit with no problems like fender mounted filters loading with dirt, water, etc....

This is my setup. It definantly sounds, and looks better than the stock set up. I'm sure it doesn't gain much other than critisizm from people who don't like cold air setups.

Let me know if you need help, I've made 3 of these for different sho's over the years.

advance auto sells a universal cold air kit does anyone now if it will work

The goodecars ebay one comes with silicon tubing/couplers cut at angles to fit on the SHO with no mods required and in a choice of colors; takes just a couple minutes to install.
