Coilovers vs Springs

Hey guys. So another inquiry about lowering this hunk.

I have a 2019 PP SHO. I know the suspension is a bit firmer (sport-tuned if you will), and I’ve heard from a bunch of folks that H&R springs with the PP suspension will be rough, especially for a daily driver.

I didn’t really want to entertain the thought of coilovers because they are more expensive, but here I am.

1. Are coilovers more comfortable than springs? What about for a PP car?

2. If yes, are the coilovers more expensive to install and/or do they always require the camber kit for the rear? Anytning else I should know before purchasing?

3. If yes, what coilovers do you guys recommend? I see a few different brands, some cheaper than others.

Sitting on megan racing coilovers right now Non PP 2018 SHO. No camber plates setup, rear offset is slightly off but i'm not too worried about it, fronts are perfect. (things might change when I get my larger wheel setup IDK).

Ride comfortability is fine, you definitely feel the road more and bumps are more prominent. The adjusters on the dampers are all set to midway and I don't feel the need to push it any softer but I can see why people max them out. In my opinion I don't do long road trips in this car so I have no problem with the rougher driving experience and if anything it adds to it because it feels more like a racecar. Handling seems to be a lot better as well. I have no real experience with lowering springs but the coilovers have been great for me.

Installed all 4 myself in the span of two afternoons, (fronts one day rears the next) it really isn't that bad to do if you have basic tool setup. Not sure what a full install would cost.

coilovers are not meant for really rough roads (think detroit). other than that, you should love em.

I’d go with H&R springs and call it a day, just worried because the performance package has stiffer struts. I was told to buy non-PP struts and throw them on with the H&R springs at the same time to make the ride quality better. My car has 30k on it, my struts are fine, just stiffer apparently. Just trying to evaluate if that’s worth it or if I just throw them in my struts I have. I feel like it can’t be THAT bad but no clue.

You need the PP struts/shocks to dampen the recoil of the H&R springs. If you use the non PP struts/shocks, the car will poggo over every bump, and the ride will not be fun. Stick with the H&R - PP strut/spring setup if you go that route.

That’s soo strange.. I’ve been hearing that PP struts and H&R springs will be brutal…

It's a stiffer ride yes, but the car will behave better than if using the non PP struts and shocks.

Ride and handling are subjective.

On my 2010 PP, I went with GODSPEED coil overs. They come with 6KG front and 14KG rear springs. Oddly. I finally migrated up to 14kg springs for the front to get the front dialed in right. 6K was just too soft and bottomed too much. 10KG was better but got random bottoming. 14k? Mucho bettero and corners like crazy now and rides nice.

I installed a set on my 2012 a few months ago. I had a couple minor issues with the installation (I made a thread if you want to read about it). The biggest issue is that the front sway bar links they provided wouldn't fit the coilovers. The bolt was too short to pass through the opening and screw on a nut. I bought a set of Maxpeedingrods, which were beefier and fit fine. I reported the issue to Amazon and they refunded $50 so the upgrade ended up costing me $20-30.

I keep the front dialed in a couple clicks above the middle settings, and the rear set mid way. So far, I'm happy with them. The car corners like a sports car now. Before, I would feel a lot of body roll. Now, I want to accelerate through curves because the wheels feel planted. I set the ride height as high as I could, which ended up being about a 1" drop from my old, worn out suspension. No real issues with bottoming out yet, though I do notice dips in the road now more than before. It's most noticeable where a bridge meets the road if it's not properly smoothed out. This is the first time I've ever modified the suspension on my car, so I don't have a lot of history to base off of.

I did coil over's on my track car, 2010 SHO PP and H&R lowering springs for the road trip car 2011 SHO. Like BOTH. Just softer ride with H&R but lowered by 2".
