The 89 SHO just died at a stop sign and took awhile to restart. Power seems a little week but the car seems to run fine now.

I decided I needed a scanner and purchased a fairly good one.

The KOEO gave a code 11, but the KOER gave a 49 and also a 95. The code 49 said the test defaulted timing to 10 degrees BTDC which could account for little loss of power. I'm assuming that only the computer advances timing.

The vehicle ID calls for a Y code for the scanner, but the scanner acts like it wants to test an automatic transmission.

Where am I at on this? The crankshaft position sensor was replaced about 25 K ago, and so was the camshaft sensor, but seems like a similar problem.

Do a search for testing the DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) aka SPOUT Spark Output of the ECU (electronic control unit aka das computer).

All it takes is a digital multi meter and or a LED light probe. Do NOT use an analog meter (swing nedel type) nor an incandescent light type probe.

The tests will check the CPS(crankshaft Position sensor), CID, coil power, PIP (CPS) to control unit, IDM to control unit, and the SPOUT to DIS module (on the intake crossover tube).

Crankshaft Position Sensor = CPS or PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) = CKP, or VR/VRS (Variable Reluctance sensor)

IDM = Ignition Diagnostic Monitor

PCM, ECA, ECM, ECU = control module or das computer

The test are simple voltage tests, or will the LED light go on tests. Note: Check all connections first. See the list of things to check for below.

If you cannot find the prior posts let me know and I'll post it again.

The 95 code indicates a fuel pump circuit problem. Check your connections for corrosion, loose pins or spade connectors, loose connections, poor ground, broken or shorted wires. rangerj
