PIP sensor and fuep pump circuit open connection - Electronic Control Assembly to motor ground

Car has been acting like it had a bad crank sensor (dying, tach goes to zip, then not starting, no spark to coil, then let it sit and it starts fine), but it was replaced less than 10k ago along with a full 60k. Any ideas guys? This is my father's car, and it always seems to do fine when I drive it to look for the problem (of course), so I only have one stall/quit witnessed, and the car started right back up.

Either it was a faulty CPS or it wasn't gapped properly. The vanes on the sensor ring should also be checked to make sure that they haven't been bent. This can be done without removing the pulley by checking the gap on all three vanes. This is a good practice for any CPS installation. You should first check the grounds to the DIS module as they can also cause the CPS and CID error codes.

The fuel pump? Has it stopped on its own before or only when the engine has died from the CPS? If the latter, you are okay.

Not sure. I have been after them to replace it for a while, as it whine's like an injured cat. I hate to pull everything off again, but they are afraid to drive the car with it acting up. I drove it again tonight just to see if I could get it to act up. It was running rough for a little bit, and about 5 miles into my drive it did a classic CPS fault, died with the tach snapping to zero, but caught itself and drove great for the rest of the 50 miles. So the CPS error code is 542? Anyway, guess I got a little weekend project. At least I got the oil leak stopped on my 89 so I don't have to mess with it.

Actually, the 542 has to do with the FP secondary circuit and can be ignored.

It usually sets when there is a stall of almost any kind.
