Okay, so ive been having gas mileage problems (22MPG driving like a grandma) and some other things like random misfires... so anyway i did a KOER test today, just to see if she had any problems she wanted to address to me.

so what happens is that I do the test per the ford CD manual and "goose" it (all the way to WOT) when the single flash of the CEL is seen after the timing is advanced, and you hit your brakes and turn the wheel

well thats all fine and stuff, i get code 111 twice, and then goose it again, to do the engine balance test, then it dimly flashes (acknowledging something I am assuming) but it displays code 538

538 (R) System did not receive "goose" test

which i am clearly doing... could this be a bad TPS, and the reasoning to my 22 MPG?

Normally, that's due to an improperly executed "goose", either due to a mis-timed application of the throttle or failing to mash the pedal to the floor. I have yet to hear of a single instance where that code was the result of a real failure of a hardware component.

It won't reflect in any way on your fuel mileage which may or may not be "in range", depending on which engine and transmission is in use (you didn't specify).

I have done the test before (about 1-1/2 years ago) and had no problems, i have "run" this test about 7 times now and every time I get the 538

[edit] and every time i mash it to the floor and get it about 4k rpm... it needs to be higher than 2k... My neighbors probably hate me now

and it is an MTX... sorry i thought it was in my sig... i just added it :)
