I am getting Code 49, which means spout circuit is open. I've checked the plug and it is in (!) and cleaned the contacts, but the error still shows up.

Car runs like crap at idle and at launch from start. At highway speeds it's fine. Surprisingly, gas mileage has been unaffected.

I don't have my wiring diagrams with me (on work assignment elsewhere). Can someone detail circuit wiring outlay?

Where do I start looking for the open circuit point point?

That plug is so hard to get to; I can barely fit my hand in to reach it. Looks like I'll have to remove the damper brace attached to the strut tower and/or the intake manifold.

If I can't fix the problem, is there someway to override the open circuit error and have the car return to normal (i.e. doesn't operate at 10deg BTDC)?

Thanks.

Big bummer. I guess that means new DIS (if I can find one). Is there anyway to determine that it is definitely the DIS? Where to purchase? How much?

Thanks.

'89 SHO 390000 miles.

I installed a new aftermarket DIS (AC DELCO) and the code is gone.

I still get a stumbling and chugging of the car on start. Once it is warmed up, it runs fine except at idle. If I immediately start to go after start-up, the engine stumbles pretty badly, and I lose power for a few seconds while I keep the throttle open.

Then it "takes off" when it seems to recover with the throttle still open a good amount (the amount you would use if you were starting to move forward at a normal speed from a stop)

If I'm sitting at a light, the engine idles fine then takes a dip and starts "chugging" and stumbling, then it returns to normal. The chugging or stumbling is not as bad as when I start the car. This cycle just repeats itself every 30 seconds or so.

It's not bad but I've never had the problem before and would like to see if I can clear it up.

No codes appear.

I installed new plugs (Motorcraft type specified for the engine), wires, plug wire seals (?) - the ones under the valve covers - about two years ag 26,000 mi ago.

New stock type fuel pump (not Ford or Motorcraft) installed about 6 years ago.

I ran the fuel pump check with the test connector and it ran fine.

Fuel filter a LONG time ago.

Fuel injectors never replaced or serviced.

Coil was replaced two years ago with plugs, wires.

Cleaned the MAF, IAB, throttle body and cleaned my K&N air filter.

But the plugs are not the original dual platinum type but the kind that everyone has recommended (I don't remember the type), since the original are no longer available.

Will the following problems occur with no KOEO codes:

- fuel injector(s) gone bad?
- spark plug failure
- ignition wire gone bad?

I ran the KOEO test and no codes appeared.

What does the KOEO indicate when there is a "problem" with a cylinder?
Spark plug / wire gone bad?

I guess I'll start with the fuel filter, then start pulling plugs.

Is there a test to determine if the coil is good?

Any other recommendations or advice??
