It may be the CID sensor or a problem with the DIS or the connections to it: inputs or ground. If you aren't having any of the hard starting symptoms, it could be another of the causes. Is the 19 the only code that you are seeing?

94 SHOATX,

Check the Cylinder Identification Sensor(CID aka Camshaft Position Sensor) circuits and connections, including grounds.

The female connectors loose some of their tension and get loose with age (don't go there guys). Add a little corrosion to this fact of life and you have an intermittent problem that is difficult to locate.

Test the wires from the CID for continuity. Whenever possible test the wire on the other side, of far side, of any connectors. This way you are testing "through" the connection.

Use an LED (Light Emitting Diode) type test probe, as apposed to an incandesant type bulb tester. These are cheap and available from Radio Shack, Sears, Auto Zone, etc. A digital "Multi-Meter" also works for this.

The idea is to follow the signal from its beginning point to its end point. You will need to refer to the wiring diagrams for the color and guage of the wires, and the route the wires take.

This can be a time consuming process, but sometimes it is the only way to find the problem connection. You could just disconnect, and reconnect, all connections in the circuit and cross your fingers!

The following is an open question to the forum. Does anyone know of a source of the connectors, not the plastic that the connectors fit into, but the actual connectors that fit into the plastic pieces?

I am looking for the "female" connectors in bulk quantity, say boxes of 100 or 1000. Does anyone know who was the OEM supplier to Ford? rangerj
