I had a SHOShop competion clutch installed in my car about a month ago. Ever since I got it sounds like 2 peices of rubber are being rubbed when I go from a dead stop. It was installed by my local Ford (never going back they dont know how much oil my car takes). Is this sound due to my shifting or is normal for a new clutch (it doesnt occur all of the time). Also when the clutch is not engaged and my car is idling, I hear a sound like a worn baseball card in a bike (very soft sound). I know its the clutch because when I engage it, it goes away. Agai n is this normal at all? Im considering having it taken back a second time (they already took it apart to inspect it due to other issues) and reinstalled. Any help would be apreciated.

That sound I believe is the throwout bearing (kind of a whirring/ticking sound?). It may be normal depending on how loud it is.

You shouldnt hear a stock TOB..

The rubber sounds might be a loose subframe.

I say take it back. There gonna get ****** (it being the second time) so be ready for it

"Ever since I got it sounds like 2 peices of rubber are being rubbed when I go from a dead stop"

When you are releasing in 1st gear? I'm going to guess it's the friction material on the disc. Did the dealer resurface the flywheel?

I have a higher friction disc in my 89 and it's noticably louder than stock...

"Also when the clutch is not engaged and my car is idling, I hear a sound like a worn baseball card in a bike (very soft sound). I know its the clutch because when I engage it, it goes away"

Thats TOB...

LoudSho, I believe that you have to drop the subframe in order to replace the clutch.

Which disk? Is it the dual diaghram clutch or the metal puck disk type? The dual diaphragm clutches Always break the pin holding the throwout bearing to the fork. It is just plastic after all

The fly wheel was resurfaced. The clutch material is a higher friction material. Its the SHOShop competion clutch. Otherwise it handles fairly well overall.

that baseball card sound is soooooo TOB. They kinked it installing it. Take it back and give them shit and make them do it all over again. be there when they crack the tranny, if the PP is worn, make them replace that too.

I know it seeems like one thing after another. The rubber sound has gone away (maybe my shifting). Only for a short time it sounded like a metal flap or something was hitting something if I went over bump or something. This was like for less then a day. So is it something I sound have checked? Well from what it seems, the clutch was not installed properly (again) and I will try and get it in soon, though time is an issue.
