so im driving last night and i come upon a long strech of road and decide its time to hammer. I hammer my way through 3rd and as i shift to 4th, i find i cant get it in gear and the clutch pedals acting wierd. I pull over, long story short i get towed home. Here are the symptoms, last night the clutch pedal felt like it had a lot of pressure on it and wouldnt push down well, couldnt get in any gears while the cars started. While its stopped i could shift fine. Today i tried it and i can get in gears while its started, and it did lurch forward a little. I then got a bad whining sound and i could smel burnt clutch. I just replaced the clutch setup like a month ago too!! im thinking theres a pressure plate problem, maybe came loose. I dont know how, i used locktite on the bolts to avoid this problem. I dont think its the throw out bearing. Help Guys!!!! :frown:

UPDATE:
just went out and started her up again. This time i heard a whineing/chirping noise going at the same rate as the motor while the clutch was engaged. Try to moved, bucked a little, then i couldnt get the gears to move again while it was started.

Yeah, but did you replace the throwout bearing? Cuz if you didn't, then :slap: for you!

That definitely sounds like a throwout bearing issue/ failure. Sorry meng. :frown:

do you mean pressure plate strap? odd noises, well when i would release the clutch in first it would make a wierd clinging noise sometimes. Not loud or anything just like a vibration. I didnt think much of it. Also when i was about 4000 rpm and shifted it made that noise and the clutch pedal would vibrate.Another problem i was having was the shifter would vibrate and make a creeking sound when i came to a stop or downshifted hard but i dont think thats related to this at all.

Have you missed a high RPM shift lately? Or downshifted without rev-matching and popped the clutch? Have you tried pulling up on the pedal to adjust the clutch cable?

well ive checked to see if the clutch cable was working and it is in fact moveing the fork. How exactly do you adjust the pedal. I was just talking to a friend/mechanic and he was telling me that something in the pedal can get over tightened causeing the clutch to not fully engage. What else should i check externaly before i start ripping the tranny out.

Pull up on the clutch pedal. If you hear a "Click" it needed to be adjusted. Pull up on it a couple more times, then see how the engagement feels. If the clutch is vibrating, etc. then you've got more problems to worry about.

Sheered PP strap (actually the rivet that fastens them).

That's what happens with these things on a high rpm mis-shift

"makes mental note to NOT let that happen again"

As said above,it sound like a PP problem.
Mine was doing about the same thing and I was missing 3 fingers off the PP.
Man that sucks,as much work that goes into a clutch replace, and to have to do it AGAIN :headbang:
Good luck.

im deff going to try to get my money back from advanced auto. i wanted to go with the performance clutch but had no money for it. I knew this was a cheaper clutch set up but come on, a month!! Im trying to think if i missed any high rpm shifts, only thing i can think of is a 4th to 2nd shift however i caught it just as the rpms started to shoot. I dont think it would be enough to do this.Oh well the fun begins again. Anyone know where i can find good detailed info on doing the clutch job. Ive only done it once and i wanna make sure its done right. Thanks!

Helms manual and Josh's video are the best real information I can suggest. I'm sure there are a few write-ups on the forum as well, but they won't have complete step by step instructions.

Just out of curiosity, did you break the clutch in properly?

as far as breaking it in, i went at least 500 miles without hammering it, probably more. My clutch didnt come with the little pins that hold the TB in, i didnt think much of it. im thinking that may be the prob.

the tob pin does nothing once the tranny is mounted to the engine. It is only there to hold the tob on the shaft while installing the tranny.

check your email tonight.
ill get that info sent
