Clutch Questions

While reading some of the other posts about clutches, i have found some of my own questions. How come it's so hard for me to go from first to second gear. It's not like i can't find the gear, it just feels like i go through that nuetral pause twice. All other gears are fine, I can shift right through them but first to second is tough? I have one more question. Why is that if i get my car about 5,000 RPM's that my clutch is stiff for about 10-15 miles? It'll be soft, but for some reason i rev the car up high, then the cluch is tough for a while. Any suggestions.
