For a while now, my clutch will usually feel pretty rough as I press the pedal to the floor but once in a while, it will suddenly feel really smooth. I'm almost positive I have a bad TOB because I get a rattle coming from around the transmission and it stops when I push the clutch in. Does this random (and rare) clutch pedal smoothness happen to anyone else? Does anyone know why this could be happening? I think it might have something to do with the bushing that the clutch cable goes through right before it meets the gear lever because whenever it rains, the pedal feels smooth (maybe has something to do with the moisture in the air lubing that bushing). Any ideas?

could be alot of things really...

The noise you hear with the clutch out, could be the clutch disc.

The fork bushings could be causing the shift-y shifting....

How many miles on the clutch? What brand?

I don't know anything about the clutch. I would suspect it's the factory clutch considering it's a 95 with 79,000 miles on it but then again, depending on the previous owner, maybe not (I know these clutches tend to live short lives when abused). Sometimes the clutch will go in so easily it seems like somethings wrong but it still engages just fine and then other times, it feels like the cable is being forced through a rusty hole.

I think the problem is with the throw out bearing. I had a simular problem. Clutch was smooth and light first thing in the morning and progressive get worse and would not completely disengage as the day went by. Installed a new Hi-Revs Jr clutch and throw out bearing to solve the problem.

Could be...I'm pretty sure the throw out bearing because I can hear it rattle if I have the windows down and I'm accelerating around 2000 rpm but it goes away at higher revs. Thanks for the inputs

I've had the same exact problem for the last like 3-4yrs. Does the same thing except for the TOB noise. Previous owner said the clutch was upgraded factory because the car is a 90. Haven't pulled the starter yet to check. I was going to replace the cable first. I was thinking fork bushing, but wouldn't that do it all the time? I did try to **** it from the top once, and no difference. Anybody have any other thoughts? Other than the 'smoothness' issue, all else is fine. The rainy day thing seems to be the deciding factor.
