92 manual, engine running, no noisefrom clutch ,, no movement, clutch pedal firm, goes through the motions but the car does not engage into any gear. Clutch linkage seams to be intact. Before I go an pull it apart to put a new clutch or do transmission work could it be something simple? I picked this car up for my son knowing it had a problem so I can't tell you what it did leading up to this problem. Any ideas of what it might be?

Could be a 'sploded diff/ventilated tranny.

There was a case a while back where somebody sheared the input shaft in the tranny.

A nicer problem would just be a completely failed pressure plate.

Hard to say without knowing more, especially if it doesn't make any noise.

Sounds like a toasted clutch, which is why you can't engage a gear. If you do try, you'll get some grinding or just nothing at all. If your shifter was disconnected, that thing would sway around in any direction and the gates for the gears would not be there, so that's not the problem.

If you have no noise at any time, your transmission is fine. The symptoms you listed don't have anything to due with symptoms from a blown differential, you can keep driving if that happened. And if a shaft broke in half, you'd hear something.
