What do some of ya'll think about doing your own clutch. I have all the access to tools but not a lift.

I was going to get The stuff from shonutperfomance including the video. Has anyone seen the video?

Thanks for the insight

I've seen part of the video and it is great. But I wouldn't attempt a job like that without some sort of lift. It's a real PITA job...so prepare yourself if you decide to go that route.

By lift, if your mean engine hoist, I changed a clutch without one. I built the wood cradle as shown in the shonut video (maybe $30 of material) and used a good (3 ton $200 floor jack, not the 2 ton $19.95 floor jack.) You have to get the frame rail about 2 feet off the ground to remove the tranny.

Great video, watch it 3 times, take notes.

You do not need to completely remove the transmission to replace the clutch. You do need to drop the subframe in order to the clutch. I used a 3 ton floor jack and floor jacks to do the job. It takes time to do the clutch. You SHOULD have the flywheel ground. The clutch disc will usually create hard spots in the flywheel (especially if there has been clutch disc slipage) that will cause premature wear on the clutch disc. Do it right the first time. I had to replace my tranmission mount too. Be prepared to replace mounts if you find them bad. Its the best time to do it. I just finished mine 2 weeks ago. Feels nice to have a strong clutch again. If you are going with an OEM clutch, get the SHONut Clutch Kit with the wear items. IT WILL SAVE YOU !!! Great deal and JOSH is great to work with.

I did my clutch job almost a year ago now by myself...no lift, didn't use a cherry picker...just a jack, jack stands and some time and patience. It is a PITA to do, but not impossible. Some (who shall remain nameless) told me after 1000 miles my clutch would failc ause theirs did. It has been WELL over 1,000 miles and almost a year and my clutch has absolutely NO problems. Also, you do not have to drop the tranny toitally out of the car...be creative. It works! :D

When I pulled my tranny completely out of my SHO it gave me the opportunity to give it a thourough cleaning and inspection, and the half-shaft differential seal are easier to install with the tranny out.

I replaced the motor mounts at the same tim, expensive, but it had 195,000 miles at the time.

This month is my one year anniversary, 23,000 miles on the clutch, (and a new off-road pipe, we shoot EPA revenoors in our parts) still scaring the pijabbers out of beemers.
