so i will try to make this long story short
anyways, i was cruising down the freeway at about 75-80 in 3rd, i reached for the shifter to put it in 4th, I by no means did any forcing of the shifter and it shifted into what i thought was 4th, when i let out the clutch pedal the engine made a terrible scream and i quickly pushed the clutch pedal back in. Feeling scared for my engine/clutch, I pulled over and shut the car off. The gears went in smoothly when the car was off, but when i started it up, some extra force was required to get it in gear and now reverse grinds a tad no matter what method I use to get it in there. I now feel a heavy vibration in my clutch pedal when it is pushed in.

My questions are
1. what happened? It felt like 4th, so is it even possible to shift into 2nd or reverse at those high speeds(75-80) with little to no effort with the shifter? If not, why did it do that?
2. If it shifts fine and goes into all the gears with no binding when the car is off, does that mean it must be clutch disc, pp or tob?
3. Anyone else experience this before?

My 92 did this to me one time 3 years back, and it wasn't having symptoms like i am having now

Any ideas?

Just one more quick question, is there a brand (valeo, centerforce for examples) or combo of clutch setup(valeo clutch with centerforce tob for examples) that are highly recommended?

sound like a throw out bearing issue,or broken PP
id look to get a spec stage one or two with a ceramic TOB.

just a little tip untill you get it fixed. put it into reverse while the car is turned off to avoid grinding/transmission damage.

I'm with Mr.A.

Definately sounds like PP failure.

Did you say the car will go through the gears ok with the engine off?

i had an issue like this before. my show had the orginal clutch in it at 105.*** miles and i was shifting and then i had the same problem. when i took out the tranny and replaced the clutch it ended up being the smaller spring inside one of the larger springs on the clutch disk broke into two pieces. then the spring got wedged between the center of the disk and the flywheel bolts. it really sucked. fortuneately i was 1/2 mile from the house
