Hello,

I work 38 miles from home and i just broke a cable about 1/2 mile away from work. I'm wondering if anyone can answer a few questions regarding the clutch cable on a 92' MTX SHO ? First off, i saw the cable snapped in half .... It broke close to the carb butterfly thingie.

Where can i get a new cable at ?

How hard of a job is it ?

What tools do i need ?

Thanks in advance Phil

Salvage Yard, Dealership parts department, auto parts store. You want a throttle cable (accelerator cable) for your model year SHO. The cable may be different for an ATX vrs an MTX, so be sure to mention it is for an MTX. The part may be the same for 89 through 92. You can check this at a dealership or a parts store (maybe). If you are not sure, and you are looking for a salvage part, you will have to find a 92 MTX salvage car and hope the cable was not cut.

You will need two screwdrivers (phillips and slotted), needle nose pliers, and some small sockets or wrenches (metric), say 7mm through 13mm.

The air intake duct assembly has to be removed. The "snap in" nylon bushing has to be removed from the pedal arm. Remove the cable housing from the dash panel by depressing the two vertical snap-in tabs and push outward from inside the passenger compartment. (There may be a splash shield to remove.)

Remove the speed control cable from the accelerator cable. Unwind the cable core wire from the pulley and slide the cable end fitting out of the slot in the pulley (This is SHO specific). Disconnect the cable at the throttle body throttle lever. Remove the cable housing to engine mounting bracket retaining screw. Remove the cable from the bracket slot.

Reverse the procedure to install the "new" cable. However start by snapping the new cable into the firewall, then hook it up inside the car and under the hood.
Cheers, rangerj
