Clutch cable adjuster

Has anyone had any problems with the adjuster holding the adjustment.I reset the adjuster, adjust it, then drive it. after a few shifts i hear a click and the pedal has gone soft again. For some reason the adjusting mech wont hold. any suggestions?

The adjuster is a small metal pawl with about 2 or 3 teeth that engage a plastic quadrant,,,sort of a "quarter of a wheel". Possible that some of those teeth are missing. If you are a contortionist you can look up under the dash and see the blue plastic quadrant. Or, could be the clutch is trashed, has happened to most of us MTX'ers.

It sounds like the spring that keeps tension on the cable in not doing its job. That is the force that allows the automatic tensioning when you lift the clutch pedal. If no spring pressure, then the cable will go slack when the ratchet pawl is lifted.

Hey thanks scott!
I ended up with the same conlcusion after studying the diagrams in my Service Manual. I did some tinkering under there and it seems okay for now. If it does go again i think i'll replace that spring.
