I currently have a 95 MTX which is my second SHO. I suspect the clutch is original and I'd like to replace it very shortly. My previous SHO (94 MTX) supposedly had a "stage 2" clutch. I do not know what brand or type, but I loved it. The pedal was the perfect pressure and never slipped. Both were daily drivers that I beat on (as well as take care of) and minimally modded, so my question is what clutch should I get? The goal is a firmer clutch pedal and can handle aggressive driving.

Being that the clutch is most likely original, I'm assuming the flywheel is as well. I have my eyes on the SHOsource steel billet one. Anyone have any input about this? Is it worth the money?

Now regarding motor mounts. Do I need reinforced ones, or will OEM replacements suffice? Can they be mixed and matched; like if I had a reinforced front and new OE rear? Again the goal is to have a fun daily driver that can take a beating.

Thank you for your tme and happy independence day!

Luk or Southbend are great clutches and the only two I would recommend if you plan on running hard. I recently installed a Precision brand clutch in my '92 and have ZERO complaints. However, for the most part I drive like an old lady as far as clutch abuse is concerned. I wanted a Luk just because they are superior but had no choice at the time.

There will be a slight difference with a lighter steel flywheel. Whether that is worth the money depends on how far you want to go with upgrades. Unless you plan on going 'all out' I would stick with the factory flywheel. One thing you must do is have the flywheel resurfaced. This is where you don't want to cheap out on the quality of work.

As for reinforced engine mounts the answer is YES, and both. With how you plan on driving the factory designed mounts will be destoyed in no time.

I already have an intake, MAF and catless y-pipe. The only other mods I plan on doing are UD pulley, BBB, and a ported intake. Maybe down the line, a magnaflow catback. So as far as the engine it's pretty much bolt on only. I saw that Luk clutches were highly recommended on this forum but was also looking at the southbend to replicate my old SHO.

I don't plan on going too far with the car so resurfacing the flywheel sounds perfect.

I didn't know stock motor mounts were so bad, thanks for letting me know before I went through that hassle.

Thank you for your input. I'm trying to hoard all these parts and have them waiting for me when I get back home.

If you plan on getting the SHOsource underdrive crank pulley a lighter flywheel might be worthwhile. I think there is an original new in box SHOshop version for sale in the classifieds. I can't comment on its reputation but know there are others on here who can. Otherwise SHOsource sells a lightened flywheels too. I'm sure Matt will chime in.

I'd keep the stock flywheel. I have a 17lb, it's just okay at best. Stock is around 20-21lb.

Ok it looks like stock flywheel, resurfaced, reinforced motor mounts and a southbend clutch is what I am going to go with. Thank you all for the insight. When I get back from Afghanistan I should have a nice DD.
