First- look under the dash, follow the clutch pedal up. you should see a light blue piece of plastic between a couple of metal pieces( the clutch pedal asembaly)
Second- get a long screwdriver (its easier with it)
Third- put the screwdriver onto the front (the only place you can put it) of the blue piece of plastic ( called the quadrent)
forth- pull up on the pedal
5th- lightly push the quadrent back. it will have some resistance as it has a heavy spring on the back side.
6th- only go about a 1/4'' to maybe a 1/2'' ....
get in a press clutch pedal, but be careful on releasing it, as it has to completly set in. if you happen to have set it too far, pull the pedal up slightly,it will click only once or twice if you do it soflty. but if you pull to hard you will have to do the procedure again. after a few times of doing this, within a period of a few hundred miles, the clutch pedal/qaudrent will set to the proper setting...
also, if you reach up behind the whole clutch assemably, and feel the quadrent, you should feel teeth. If these teeth feel slightly worn, the clutch will not stay set.
the P# from ford for the quadrent and paw kit is- E7FZ-7L583-A, allthough i cant remeber the price... it wasnt too bad IIRC..
Clutch adjustment ALL YEARS....
and if you get real inovative.. you can make a brace that will hold the quadrent in place, right above top dead center ( which is in its full yupright position), this will hold the quadrent right were it needs to be... just measure the length from TDC to the clutch pedal assembaly (in front of it, about 2 1/2'' down IIRC..)and then add on another 1/4'' or so... Once you get under there and see it, you will know how to cut the brace...
Enjoy!
