I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this. I've been experiencing some noticeable engine vibrations and clunking sounds especially when I accelerate and then let off the gas at slow speeds.

I was convinced my motor and transmission mounts were to blame however I've just replaced both of them and while the vibrations are quite a bit better, I'm still noticing the clunking. It's not that harsh but I can feel it through the steering wheel when it happens. The best way I can describe it is as if the engine it tapping the firewall or something when power is transferred.

It happens on smooth roads and not over any speed bumps or anything so I'm assuming it's not suspension related but I'm curious to hear what everyone has to say.

You say both. I assume you meant the uppers. Have you replaced the lowers (aka torque struts)? I suggest the AD mounts if you haven't.
