Ok, check this out. I pulled the strut caps and started the engine and turned the wheel back and forth. The damn strut shafts are moving in and out about a quarter inch or more! I am not talking bent, I mean they move in and out, changing the camber.

I have not had one of them apart but I think I will go out to the wrecking yard (there are about 20 Taurus of these years and three gen 1 SHOs) and pull one apart to see the workings. I think I am going to change the springs out for Eibach and install new upper strut mounts. It has Tokiko struts that the previous owner installed about 60K miles ago. I know, I really should replace the struts as well but I am trying to keep the cost down.

Anyway, I think this is where the noise comes from. I'll put it on the rack at work tomorrow and give that a better look.

It sounds as if you have already identified the upper strut mounts as failed. Replacement of the strut bearing would probably be a good idea while you have the strut and spring apart.

Yeah, I stopped by the NAPA store and took a look at the upper mounts, mine are SHOT, that is for sure. I am going to collect up the goodies, including the strut rod bushings you laid out in that other thread and swap it all out. Thanks for all of your posts on here.

I picked up a 26mm rear bar off an 89 today and will be putting it in as well. This car is basically stock and with a few mods, along with the simple rebuilds I think it is going to be a ball. I have had the car for a couple of years and kinda "fell out of love" with it and just used to to drive to work everyday. But I recently found a new love for it and look forward to having some fun.
