I don't know if it makes a difference, but my car just had the tranny rebuilt, so obviously everything was moved around.

But here's the problem. Every time I hit the brakes I hear and feel a clunk on the drivers side right around my left foot. Almost feels as if the subframe bolts weren't tightened down enough, and it is rocking back and forth. This also happens if I take off kind of fast. When I'm sitting at a red light, and the car rolls forward a little, and I hit the brakes, it makes the noise.

I'm stumped on this one. I just replaced all tie rods, control arms with ball joints, and had aluminum sub frame bushings put in. Anyone have this problem before??

Thanx guys.

I have a similar thing going on. I have new springs struts, strut mounts, strut bearings, OTE, LCA, and end links. I just checked the torque on all bolts last weekend and everything was fine. Wheel bearings also seem to be fine. Axle nuts are torqed to spec. What the **** else is there?

Did you check the sway bar and motor mounts? Exhaust loose? Not much left after that.

I have new mounts, new springs, struts, bushings, bearings, sway bar links, and both axles have under 5k on them. Exhaust was never loosened, ever since I put on the y-pipe. Only thing I can think of is the guys who did my tranny, didn't tighten up my sub frame bolts.

That's an easy thing to check if you have a torque wrench or can take it to someone who does.

I have the same problem, have you been able to fix it yet? the only thing that I could think of is the SFB, because it only happens if the car is breaking, and it feels like its coming from under my feet. well have you tightned the Motor Mounts? did it help any? I have no clue how to fix it, I think after my cluch was installed something wasn't torqued right! If any one knows how to fix it I'd be most appreciative,

Thanks,

i had a similar experience with my 94mtx. when i went over speed bumps or basically any bump in the road, there was a HUGE clunk,(on drivers side only) long story short, it was the nut to hold the strut in the housing!!! so when i went over a bump the housing would drop down then the koni!! shoshop found it out for me and said there was no damage, lucky me. ever since no sound or degregation of performance.

I still haven't found the tq specs for the subframe bolts. I don't want to over tighten those. I also haven't had an alignment done since I put in my springs and struts. So if I can't figure it out, then I will have the alignment shop fix it, then I can tell all of you. :)

SHO91MTX:
76 lb/ft Go alittle tighter though.
Go ALOT tighter...I had installed new subframe bushings in the '97, and I had them torqued around 90... still had clunking. The alignment shop told me the bushings weren't tight enough even then. So, they tightened them even more.
No more clunking for me.

Ok guys, I fixed it. I got under my car with my torque wrench and an 18mm socket. I tighten all of them to 105 ft.lbs. No more clunk. Also, I have alumin. SFB's, I'm not too sure what would happen if you over tighten the rubber ones.
