Hey all. I have a clicking noise that comes from under the car during hard accelaration. Sounds like a ratchet but louder and sparatic, not continueous. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas??
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff is it a different noise than a chattering TOB?? Does it happen at all speeds and under normal acceleration?

Where under the car is it coming from? Can you tell if it's coming from the motor or from the trans? Does it happen when you go around corners or going straight? How loud is it? Does it sound like it's clicking in rhythm with the motor/trans, in other words, when you go faster does it click faster?

It's hard to tell from words what the problem is. No worries though, we'll get you fixed up soon enough.

Also, as much as I hate to say it, if you're worried that it's in the trans I would personally not drive the car anymore until the problem is found and fixed. Just in case.

OK, here we go
It is comeing from the engine compartment. sounds like the drivers side
not sure if its the motor or trans
Both going around corners and straight
If the windows were up you would barly be able to notice, but I can hear it, i know its there
It does not have any rythem to it, its random. Hard to tell you exactly, but it does not change with the speed of the car or motor(weird)
I think it is original(176K)

Ok, first thing check your trans fluid and make sure that when you stick your finger in the fill plug hole that you can feel the fluid. You might want to pull the passenger side halfshaft out if you can (it's easier than the driver's side IMO) and see if all the pinion shafts are visible.

Are you having any shifting issues at all?

When I shift my forward gears I hear no clunking sound, only in reverse when the shifter passes the reverse lockout mechanism and goes into reverse do I ever hear a clunk noise.

What about your fluid level? When was the last time you changed it out?

Changed the fluid about 6000 miles ago when i did the motor swap. I am thinking now it has more to do with the motor, it needs a 60K
