Clearing the Codes

Sorry for what may sound like s tupid question, but what is the correct procedure for clearing the codes in my '94 ATX. I have been just taking off the negative battery cable. The JBL Radio stations and clock do not get reset by doing this. Does this mean I need to take off both the negative and positive cables to clear the codes?

To clear the codes for EEC-IV controlled vehicles: while you have the CE light flashing codes, pull the jumper out of the terminals.
