Is there an easy way to clean out all of the grime of a used intake? Which products work the best? How much would it cost to get them honed out? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Have the intake Extrude Honed :)

Seriously... Berryman's B12 Chemtool, applied liberally, buy some bottle brushes and work them all around inside.

We pull apart the entire intake to clean effectively. This weekends' required 8 cans of Berryman's to get it like new again.

Don't forget to have new gaskets ready, and look into new vacuum lines also. Check the integrity of the black rubbers as well.

Couldn't a radiator shop boil it for you? It's generaly fairly cheap, will come back in the raw (like newly made) and EVERYTHING is cleaned out. :D

I use intake cleaner and a garbage disposal cleaner brush. It's the right diameter and has a flexible shaft with a "T" handle. Dirty job.

The plant I work at in my day job has an entire cleaning room for metal parts. I went through the degreaser & cleaning rooms with a V8 SHO intake recently & it didn't come out as clean as the Berryman's & a brush gets it. All but one of the intake parts in that set went through my work, except the surge tank that has the foam padding on it. That one I did by hand with the Berryman's.

I know this post is from a while back but...Do I need to worry about getting fluid in/on the IAB and DIS during cleaning. Should I remove them?

I currently fly S-3B VIKING. Hoping soon to fky F-18 Super Hornet.

When you take your intake apart and get the secondaries off. You can see three tubular chambers in each runner. Reach in and pull those boogers out. They pop right out and will allow you to clean the inside of the runners much easier. The B-12 is some good stuff but it will/can if exposed to the gold paint of the exterior of the intake start to remove it as well. I took my intake to a parts/solvent washer tank wouldn't even touch it. B-12 knocked it off like washing dirt off a side walk. Just be carfull with were you do it if you get it on concrete(ie garage floor) it WILL stain it for good. That is the B-12 mixed with the sludge.

Primary mission refuel. Then we just go play for a while looking for ships that we may get to attack or work on the centurion patch (every 100 traps). We are the key to the system. If we can't get airborne than no one else will have the gas to go. They removed are ASW role with the colapse of USSR. The only thing we can do for that now is carry the bouies and attack/destroy the sub.

That's pretty cool. Is your carrier getting(gotten) the new E/F Hornet? Can't remember if the superhornet and the E/F version is synonomous. We make ALE-55 towed decoy that is supposed to fly on the F-18 E/F. We still are working out the bugs so we didn't make it in time for aircraft delivery. So the ones you have or are getting will have the older Raytheon ALE-50's. The new decoy is supposed to be badass. We just can't keep the tow line and cables from roasting when you guys go full burner in a high G maneuver.
