Cleaned/clayed/waxed paint (pics)

I got a hood off the twin SHO at they yard today. No more "snarling" front end! Its weathered pretty bad. I clayed a section after I washed the car, it was due, man I love that color. My mustang was the same... Waxed the section with some Meguir's #7 yellow. Looks pretty damn good, at least in the shop light coming out of the garage... I tell more tomorrow. I want to clay the whole car and get rid of the damn stick on pinstripes. They looks like Sh*t... Any tips for them? I have used a razorblade and water to remove tape residue on paint from my father-in-laws S10... I may have to pull the core support some more to fit this "unbent" hood. We had fun adjusting it at the yard so we could come home!

at the body shop and also at the dealer we have a tool that is called a pin stripe remover, you may want ot give it a shot. It is like a oversized die grinder with a rubber wheel on it. Basically it erases the pinstripe. The rubber wheel peels it up off of the paint but the rubber doesnt hurt the paint at all. You could probably pick up the rubber wheel at a hardware store or something and just chuck it to a drill. When your are done you will have a lot of eraser shavings on the car, just wash them off and wax the area that the pinstripe was at. This tool also works great for removing the double sided tape that holds the side cladding onto the doors. Hope this helps, let us know what you find... :wave:

Hmmm, I'll look into that. I pulled the core support out more today. I couldn't use 2 washers under the latch bolts... When I originally pulled it I had the bumper cover off and didn't have any measuring points for reference. It was 1/2-3/8" of a difference at the "L" brackets right behind the fishtanks. So I pulled the left side with the cover on this time and covered it with some towels to keep from damaging anything. Pulled great! Now I have to readjust my headlights a tad...
My hood turned out awesome. Its not as "nice" as the finish that was on the original hood, but what do you expect for a 13 year old car? I clayed it twice cause I had some areas that were still a bit cloudy. Waxed with #26 (not #7 dunno what I was thinkin', a shot of Jack maybe?)

I found the eraser on Ebay ($12 shipped) and at my local body place ($18). Will prolly get it when funds allow. I tried today on the drivers side fender with a razorblade in a widget. The vinyl was real soft from being in the hot sunlight. They scraped real easy. I didn't damage the paint one bit. I got about half of the fender. Waxed and couldn't see where the damn thing was.

Clay bar is the best. I had little dark flecks in my white paint, industrial fallout or rail dust, that didn't come out even with some polishing compound. Clay bar ripped them right out. Too bad even with two coats of carnauba wax a white car will never have as deep looking of a shine as a dark color.

Does the clay work as well as rubbing compound? I've seen them, but have experience only with compound. Fast-cut usually works well, but the problems and difficulty make me hope that the clay can be the answer. The physics sure make sense, and you all's personal results speak for themselves. However, I have a gallon of compound already. Is the clay worth spending my diminishing $$$$ for?

Wow!

Car looks awesome! I miss my green SHO. Rare or not I really think when clean and spitshined, the green is probably my favorite color on a SHO.

Hey...

Usually, the rubbing compound is used to polish the paint, or shine it up. The clay bar only removes the dirt that is embedded in the paint, it doesnt actually remove any paint.

Looks like I'm probably going to have to compound my hood... There are some areas starting to get the foggy/hazy look again like when I got if off the car at the JY... Any tips? I'm not looking forward to compounding clearcoat...

nice job on the sho though.. any pics in direct sunlight?

before wet sanding your car yourself you might want to check out autopia.org for some hints/tricks
